My father wore this during his 3 Tours in Vietnam.
I can't imagine selling such a family heirloom. What a shame.

Agreed. Money is no replacement for such a thing, IMO.

I concur.
I can only surmise that the seller needs the money very badly.

Not that I hope he is in dire straits and has to have the money, but I am hoping he is in dire straits and needs the money. Personally I could not part with something as personal as this.

Would said ring be the one on his finger in the photo? If so, I wonder if that was sold too. A shame to see such things auctioned off.

I kind of doubt it, the seller lives on ebay selling stuff...... has a nice picture of himself, son and corvette.......
The bracelet is a new replacement. The dial and hands have been replaced also with Rolex service parts. This drops the value to a regular Rolex collector from $6500-7000 to about $4500-5000. The provenance may make it more valuable to military collector, but not that much. I just saw a guy on a Rolex forum that has Walt Shumate's Rolex with papers. THAT might bring $12,500. And if Walt's watch had been a GMT vs gold day/date OP, it would bring ever more, most likely. Stainless steel Rolexes hold and increase in value over gold 99.999% of the time

He mentions being "stuck driving the Porsche" for two days.
Too bad he's more interested in turning a buck than in passing the watch to his son.

Perhaps he was estranged from his father and the watch holds no sentimental value to him, or perhaps he isn't sentimental about material objects. No way in hell would I sell it if it was my fathers.
