I am surprised this has not already been posted on this forum.

House Speaker John Boehner announced on Friday he will call a vote to form a House select committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attacks, accusing the Obama White House of "misleading the American people" by withholding emails on Benghazi - emails that only just surfaced this week despite a 2013 subpoena.

"This dismissiveness and evasion requires us to elevate the investigation to a new level. I intend for this select committee to have robust authority, and I will expect it to work quickly to get answers for the American people and the families of the victims,” Boehner (R-Ohio) said Friday in a statement.

The House still needs to vote to approve the committee but it's a foregone conclusion the Republican majority will pass the measure. Senate Republicans urged Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) to work with Boehner on a joint Senate, House committee to investigate the 2012 attack but Reid was dismissive.

"While Republicans try to gin up yet another political food fight, Senate Democrats will remain focused on fostering economic growth for all hard-working Americans,” he said.

For all the criticism Boehner has received for not doing this earlier, I tend to agree with him. Wait until all the ducks are in a row, then strike. This is too important and could rise to the level of impeachable evidence. Timing is everything here. Think about it, Repubs take both houses in '14. Articles of Impeachment brought by the House and tried in the Republican Senate. Hmmmmm

And it's a two-fer - marginalizes HCs ambitions for 2016 as well. The splintering of the Dems (Clinton Camp v Obama Camp) could get real ugly and unravel the unholy alliance.

The chickens are definitely coming home to roost.:lifter

I agree, it does seem like he knew the evidence was out there and waited until he had what he really needed.
Evidently he's put Goudy in charge of this, from what I've seen of him I don't think it means this is basically the 'going through the motions' dog & pony show. Goudy seems like the type who isn't scared of the media and/or the political lies of the left, he will get to the truth and do what needs to be done.
This is also politically safe in that the left can't hide behind the tyranny of good intentions, no way can they claim "we were just trying to help people, the republicans are just": insert preferred insult here > (hateful, selfish, bigoted, racist, mean-spirited, etc).
There was none of the tyranny of thier supposed 'good intentions' here, only proof of an outright lie and a deliberate effort at doing so. There's no ground for the left to throw the usual political lies around and scare the republicans into silence.
Keep this on the front burner until the fall and it's on the news just in time for the mid-term elections. And it does have some real implications for the hildabeasts political ambitions. IF the repubs really take this as far as it should go, I suspect at some point the left might throw the hildabeast under the bus to save thier own butts.
I did notice the angle the media is already taking, "you lied to us!" In other words, they're already trying to cover thier own butts and pointed the finger at the administration "it's thier fault, they lied to us!" . Makes me wonder if the media already knows they can't cover this up and the storm is coming.

MOO, the political angle of approach should be institutional (.LEG vs .EXE) not ideological.

Have a mission statement with an end state.
Direct points of questioning.....where was the President during the embassy fight.
Who/why was the decision made to not attempt a military intervention.
Who directed the talking points after the truth was known about Ansar Al Sharia that mislead the citizenry.
No political grandstanding or speechifying.

I agree, I like the guy from observing his comments and line of questioning. Sound Constitutionalist and being a former Prosecutor doesn't hurt.

Agree with nature and substance of questions posed in this thread so far - would also like to hear direct testimony from those on the ground and in the air during the event.

Also, what have Pannetta, Petreus and Ham got to say under oath?

You'll hear that I suspect...great thing about this committee is they can call from any element of the Gov and have folks from DofS sitting next to the military when the questions are asked.

That's true in the normal course of business. But, once a select committee is formed it's a different ball game all together. A select committee can't be ignored and it won't go away.

Given what we know and what we think we know at this point, I just don't see any path that won't lead through the valley of high crimes and misdemeanors.

When the media ends up working for the government the country is doomed...

Heads need to roll...., and I wonder how the Obama administration is going to explain this away...

Ben Rhodes, David Rhodes..., and Sharyl Attkisson...

The emails are in the links below, and the Ansar al Sharia email is particularly damning:

Nothing will happen because 47% of people and 97% of the media will deem it a witch hunt. They will use that line to influence the midterms.

"Eleanor Clift: Ambassador Stevens wasn’t murdered; he died from ‘smoke inhalation’"

These folks are brain dead at the very least.

Eleanor Clift might be on to something...

Quite a few high profile deaths were hypoxia related; JFK, Trayvon, MLK Junior, RFK, Caligula...
...all died because oxygen stopped going to their brain.

Hell, some people in government have been operating without oxygen feeding their brain cells for years now. Even Eleanor Rodham Clifton is operating on a depleted oyxgen scale...

Physical science cannot explain how she keeps her oxygen intake above a lethal level because of the speed that air is constantly shooting from her blowhole.

Testimony already on the House record (http://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Lovell-Statement-5-1-Benghazi-Libya.pdf), submitted under oath by the (then) AFRICOM Deputy J2. Some snippets for the Select Committee to chew on, already submitted to Issa's committee:

Many with firsthand knowledge have recounted the heroism displayed by the brave Americans in Benghazi that night. They fought the way they trained. That is in the record.

Outside of Libya there were discussions that churned on about what we should do. These elements also fought the way they were trained. Specifically, the predisposition to interagency influence had the military structure—in the spirit of expeditionary government support—waiting for a request for assistance from the State Department.

There are accounts of time, space and capability discussions of the question, could we have gotten there in time to make a difference. Well, the discussion is not in the “could or could not” in relation to time, space and capability—the point is we should have tried. As another saying goes:
“Always move to the sound of the guns.”

We didn’t know how long this would last when we became aware of the distress nor did we completely understand what we had in front of us, be it a kidnapping, rescue, recovery, protracted hostile engagement or any or all of the above.

But what we did know quite early on was that this was a hostile action. This was no demonstration gone terribly awry.

I watched this testimony from his prepared statement; seemed tough for him at times but the words given with resolve (Elijah Cummings looked like he wanted to leave the room). Guess BG Lovell (Ret) can scratch off an ambassador-ship in the next demokrat regime.

Regarding the Democrats role on the select committee, If they think the POTUS screwed up, they will have no one on the committee and claim it to be a witch hunt. If they think the POTUS did nothing wrong, they will join to keep it from being a witch hunt; and if they are not sure they will send a single democrat. Wonder what Pelosi will do?

The thing that struck me was the juxtaposition of BG Lovell's testimony under oath and the lame explanation Panetta gave to the press - "we just didn't know what we were getting into." [Explanation for why forces were not mobilized to respond]

BS, the mantra is as Lovell said, “Always move to the sound of the guns” and figure out the situation enroute. There is no f'n way a military commander would not have responded exactly that way. Someone gave a "stand down" order! I can't wait to hear what Gen Hamm has to say.

And the time excuse (We couldn't have responded in time to make a difference.) is the lamest of all.

Oh, and Billy as to your post - I don't care that's funny rat there. :D

CSM- I think we will get answers. As Ronald Reagan said, "Facts are stubborn things". This whole thing is as leaky as a sieve and there are just too many holes to be patched for it not to break down. The TRUTH always finds a way to reveal itself!
