Clarksville PD does this from time to time, just because they can. I don't agree with the publishing of photographs, since many of the defendants will be allowed to sign up for diversion (a short period of probation, pay court costs, maybe do some public service work) then have the charges dismissed and expunged from their record. But of course, the taint of public humiliation remains.
It's even worse when, after a review of the audio/video tape the District Attorney decides to dismiss the charge. (I've had it happen). But that doesn't unpublish the images.
TRUE STORY FROM A FEW YEARS PAST:
Clarksville PD was running a prostitution sting in the New Providence section of Clarksville. A young and very attractive female officer dressed up in a tank top and hot pants and walked Highway 41A near a motel. Inside the motel a video camera had been prepositioned in the half-opened closet, with the lens pointing to the bed.
All the bait officer had to do was get hit up upon: "Hey baby, wanna party" whereupon she would escort them to her motel room, they would sit on the bed and negotiate.
Officer: "What do you want?"
Customer: "I'll pay you $XX for a straight f--k; and $XX if you throw in a BJ."
Officer: "That sounds GOOD TO ME!"
"GOOD TO ME" was the code for "he's offered me money for sex" and cued the other officers waiting outside and in the adjoining room to come charging into her room and make the arrest.
After the defendant was booked, the officer would resume her walk.
Well, one rather suspicious GI came into the room. He sat on the bed, but didn't immediately say words that amounted to an offer of money for sex. He looked around, perhaps afraid that he was going to be attacked by her pimp. Then he spotted the camera set up in the closet, pointing at him.
GI: "What's that!?"
The officer paused just a second, then thinking quickly, snapped her gum and said:
"Oh that ...
that costs extra."
The GI thought a few seconds, and offered her money for sex, but decided not to buy the video souvenir of the encounter. As you might guess, after she declared "That sounds GOOD TO ME" he was later presented with a video tape of the encounter anyway.

My cousin's nephew is a cop and a very good looking guy, a real stud-muffin. They did a sting at the local rest stop and he was the prostitute, holy crap the stories he told.......... all the arrests were men. It must be a "gay" thing to pick up gays at rest stops.......:rolleyes:
Well, there was the time the TACs drug an AWOL ex-student into my office.
When I asked for his explanation....
"Well, 1SG, I was kidnapped by six women and was kept as a sex slave in a van all week........."
The explanation went on but I was having a hard time concentrating - the TACs were up against the back wall, hands over their mouths, eyes bugging out, faces all red, wiggling - looked to be in pain from trying to not laugh out loud.
Nothing to salvage, he was cut adrift to return to civilian life.

Yeah, came of of a 17 day survival exercise, heard the story and then found out me and my team leader were on the chopping block.
I had to report to Forrest K., the team leader departed the Army shortly after - and the BC made Bird.
AH, the good old days.....and we were complaining then that the Army just wasn't what it used to be....
Yes, two of my guys were busted in this. Naturally, one was in uniform with his shiny red beret and Group patch when he got nabbed. We found out from the paper.
