Army tests both women, men in combat fitness study

The sad fact is the Army is looking at ways to make a new standard that is more fair to both female and male soldiers.
"Whatever fitness test emerges for combat service should be a challenge for both men and women to show that standards aren’t being lowered to accommodate female soldiers, said Lory Manning, a retired Navy captain who studies how military policies affect women for the Women’s Research and Education Institute."
So by this, they are not lowering it for just women, they will lower it for everyone across the board in the Army. All they needed to do is keep the same standard and have whomever goes through the school pass the same standard. Army and the military doesn't have to change anything. If they want women in male positions or duties, then they need to get females to pass the standards if they want male positions.
I'm so glad I'm retiring this year.
So getting over the 6 foot wall will become getting over the 5 foot wall?
"...Seeking fitness standards based on real-word job requirements, the Army follows many U.S. fire departments that in recent years made entrance tests fairer to women than old standards heavy on push-ups and other upper-body exercises that favor men...."
With the gutting of military forces you would think that we would have the toughest physical standards in place. It should be very competitive with only the strongest getting in. It would also be an easy way to cull the herd.

Anyone who believes this bullshit should follow any mixed gender PT formation on Ft. Bragg.
The first ones to drop out are invariably the females, and the ones I have seen normally walk back to the unit area, rather than run at their own pace. The only way to prevent this is for the entire formation to run at a pace that is little more than a walk. No one will require females to meet the same standards as their male peers for fear of the PC police. There is allagedly a female Colonel in the 82nd who has failed her last 7 APFTs, and she is getting a command anyway.
The only thing that is going to happen here is the standards for all will be lowered, at a time when physical demands of our soldiers have never been higher.
Maybe we should first eliminate separate men's and women's sports programs and make everyone compete on the same field? Let's see how that would turn out before we bet our nation's security on it.
Require females attending military courses like Airborne School to meet the same standards as men, to register for the draft like men, and be scored on the same PT Test standards as men, FIRST.
Will our military leadership step up and do the right thing?

Not much attention paid to the survey that showed less than 8% of women are really interested in combat arms job, but why should that stop the politicians from forcing fairness on a human state (warfare) that deplores "fairness".
War is all about finding and exploiting the "unfair" advantage.
“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.”
Why our politicians are so bent on pandering to the 10% so that we can allow more women to be part of the 80% just doesn't make sense. It would appear that they find the 1% repugnant and obviously they dont care about the impact to the 9%
just a thought

This is just another form of spreading the wealth by this administration and we will all pay for it dearly when the shtf again.

Amen SIR!!!
How about this Congress and DoD, why don't we first eliminate men's and women's sports programs in universities, Major League Sports and make everyone compete on the same field? That will never happen. There is money to be money on both side. For the two business and politically.
We need our military leadership step up and do the right thing, right now! ! Let your ovaries fall down and become some BALLS!!!

Excellent.
This is what we have 40 years after Marlo Thomas and her ilk touted gender-free children in her musical "Free to Be... You and Me." Ideally, people would co-exist as "non-gendered" human persons in a neutralist world.
And we see how well that's worked out. Forty years later and we're still acting like... well... men and women. Forty years later the toy store is still stuffed with pink-themed girly toys and rough-and-tumble action toys for boys. Why? Because that's what sells. Hmm. Imagine that. Boys and girls are different.
Gender is more than learned. It's in our DNA, right down to how we think and act - not just physical differences in strength and endurance.
“One of the largest and most persistent differences between the sexes is children’s play preferences.” The female preference for nurturing play and the male propensity for rough-and-tumble hold cross-culturally and even cross-species. Researchers have found, for example, that female vervet monkeys play with dolls much more than their brothers, who prefer balls and toy cars. Nor can human reality be tossed aside. In all known societies, women tend to be the nurturers and men the warriors. Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker points to the absurdity of ascribing these universal differences to socialization: “It would be an amazing coincidence that in every society the coin flip that assigns each sex to one set of roles would land the same way.”

Forty years later and now the dialog is about transgenders and women serving as if they were equal to the task. Free to Be, indeed.

Does this mean I'm probably not going to succeed in my campaign to repeal the 19th Amendment? :munchin
