After discovering Chinese made components in the F-35 fighter jet, a Pentagon investigation has uncovered Chinese materials in other major U.S. weaponry, including Boeing B-1B bombers and Lockheed Martin Corp F-16 fighters, the U.S. Defense Department said.

I thought there was a law/policy against/about that???
But, in these days, what do laws mean anyway??
And if it's anything to do with computer/program components, who sez there's not an underlying code written on them... (oops, forgot to give the tinfoil hat warning)

In this case it was raw material like magnets and titanium. I don't have a problem with that. In fact, it's kind of cool to be using their own assets against them, saving more expensive US assets for when we need it.

.....except when they don't follow hundreds of years of metallurgical science when making and testing their end product.
During my time as a pipe fitter, I spent a lot of time replacing 20- 30 year old, American made steam fittings with client mandated (price) Chinese steam fittings.
By the end of the next year, we were replacing every Chinese fitting that we previously installed, do to premature wear.
Cost, Quality, Time.....pick two.

To this day I still find Crane, Jenkins Bros and Fairbanks Gate gate and globe valves on homes that way older than me (50) that are still fully functional.

No new news here. Yes there are laws covering this. But you really think things aren't being made in China then repackaged for "made in America" most just use it as it's marked.
It's all all the dallied, making more of it. Sad fact on what America has become. Big business driving over seas to make more has done the same thing. You can see it on that TV show "Shark Tank" They business get pissed when a person doesn't want to start production in China for the cheap overhead.
Same thing with ALL our military equipment.

Anytime there are laws like this making their way thru congress. The lobbyist for these corporations descend on Washington with lots of money in their pockets. Usually they lobby for some kind of loophole they can use to get around the law being processed.
Not having to provide health care for employees working 39 hours a week instead of 40 is a good example of this.

Interesting. There's actually a very large rare earth open pit mine out in Mountain Pass on the 15 not far from the Nevada border. It's probably the only one in North America. Did some work out there a few years ago.

Yes and no. A manufacturer can produce a casting in Romania or China and then ship it to the US where with a some finishing work and adding some domestic bits and pieces qualify it as Made in USA.
Or a forging made in Mexico or China arrives in the US, the US company adds threads, grinds off the China or Mexico markings and stamps USA on the fitting.
