Air rifles are a popular sport in Europe, are very accurate and can be quite powerful.
Around here, I take a Daisy Powerline 880 pump air rifle when I take my dogs out - it fires BBs and .177 pellets - 10 pumps and it's as powerful as a .22 and I use it to shoot jackrabbits and ground squirrels with pellets.
People just look at it like a BB gun, but... ;)

The State Dept said Kerry is taking a Syrian delegation with him as the Syrians have stepped up and informed the Ukraine that it would be sending in teams to remove the nukes from the Ukraine before the fighting got worse.

Richard, I have a BSA Lightening, runs a bit over 800 FPS with a 15gr pointed pellet, BC of .009. I run if thru a calculator and with a 25yd zero, the 100 yd head shoot only gets 16 ft lbs.. Not a real "one shot one kill" type of weapon.. Not sure it would punch a hole in a Babushka??

For all you sillyvilian's ;) you can tell it's a BB gun by the hinge pin just forward of the "snipers" thumb in the center of the stock. Plus if you look at the thickness of the barrel as compared to his thumb or finger you'll see it's very thin.
Make no mistake this is CNN's "BB Sniper".........
Check out the vice special on the Congo. There is no saving that place.

Some of the competition quality air rifles we fired with the BW mountain troops for target practice were much more powerful than my Powerline.
The Ukrainians are fighting in a city, and I would think a competition quality air rifle (like the one in the CNN pic appears to be) coulld be pretty effective in close quarters if properly employed to wound, maim, disrupt against an unsuspecting target with little or no ballistic head protection.
I wouldn't poopoo it off as somebody's Red Ryder BB gun and, to me, that pic is more an example of the nature of the fight going on (e.g., show up and fight with what ya brung) than of any misreporting by CNN or some other news network.

Sorry Richard, as a trained Special Forces sniper, I would.... I would also employ a bow and arrow before a BB gun in battle.... I'm not really sure why you're attempting to defend CNN?
This just illustrates CNN's gross incompetence in serious news reporting.

One thing to remember though is that these people fighting back are not trained Special Forces snipers :cool:
You don't need to be a trained anything to fight back..... cut the power to all the gov buildings including the police station. Cut the power to the entire city. Attack the infrastructure instead of the cops. Going head to head without guns is not a good idea. Electrical substations are a great choice and they don't shoot back. Transmission lines are also perfect. Go for their communications, cell towers, telephone cables, microwave stations. Once Rome is burning the rats will run as rats do.
A good read for all those training in revolution ;)

CNN likes to keep moving their stuff around at the speed of tweets. For those who've never done it before a simple search (this example) of "Ukrainian sniper CNN cache" gets it done. They forgot, like Ollie North about PROFS notes, they don't really get deleted. Use 'cache' in your search when they play that game.

When I started this thread, I was mocking CNN for front paging a "sniper" with a pellet gun,, NOT the pellet gun.
Here are a couple pellet penetration test. Very unprofessional, but they will do nicely as examples. These test are at hunting ranger for pellet gun.
In the phone book test, the author mentions that European guns are limited to 12ft lbs. I know for a fact that the UK guns are. I suspect that in Eastern EU & Russia, the locals are not inhibited and crank up their "toy" guns. The US pellet guns are not limited in energy output.

Today every citizen of Ukraine understands why our country has hundreds of thousands of policemen. Last illusions were crushed when riot police used rubber batons and boots at the Independence Square on peaceful citizens.
After such actions we realize that it is not enough to only adopt the Gun Law.
As of today Ukrainian Gun Owners Association will start to work on the preparation of amendments to the Constitution, which will provide an unconditional right for Ukrainian citizens to bear arms.
People should have the right to bear arms, which will be put in written into the Constitution.
Authorities should not and will not be stronger than its people!
