Bromberg emphasized the importance of keeping leaders engaged in the process and treating those who must leave with dignity and respect.

80 thousand troops is what? Like a full Corps plus it's support?

So most one term troops fill the bottom ranks - and get out.

Once they're gone that's a lot of squad leaders, platoon sergeants, 1SG's, CSM's, staff, etc that don't have a job. Any time you have an excess the herd will be thinned. Officers are included.

All you active duty guys had better take a look at your records - and then see where you're standing in your little pyramids of progression.

Kinda reminds me of the early 90's post DS/DS and the VSI/SSB era.

The Army is making its big moves already. I mentioned in another thread, an email was dropped the other day that stated there was no 2014 re-enlistments unless with special waiver from the first LTC in command. Even then, HRC could still deny the letter. I have a feeling this is going to carry to 2015 as well. My unit is already losing a few good troops because of the 2014 message.

Roger, I almost took the 15 year retirement in 94-95.

I've been looking to see the total numbers in the zone and total by each MOS picked up.

I made it on my first look this year and was shocked to see what seemed to be slim numbers. I'm wondering the numbers who didn't move up and what percentage where selected under QMP/QSP. End strength goals are hard to pin down with the rumor mill running full bore. I've heard as low as 320K by 2018.

I tell my Soldiers weekly in every regard.....have a plan. No matter your grade, no matter how good you are, you are a number that can be cut. Mid-level in my MOS is bloated. I see the biggest numbers being cut at the SSG rank. A lot of institutional knowledge will depart here in the next two years. More with less.

Better be smart about what you say, how you say it and to whom it is said. There is a lot of self nomination for these programs.

Sound advice.

I doubt the Army will have the funding for the 490,000, or even the 420,000 that is being bandied about.

Hard times and weakness are coming.

"Hollow Force" will have an entirely new benchmark before the current administration and its "ripples" are history.

MR2,
Homeland Security Degree's ARE all the rage right now in the DOD. There will be a massive influx of former mil into DHS and likely TSA.

At the very least, hopefully their airport service will get marginally better.
