Dozens of people from the U.S. who fought in Syria have returned home and are under FBI surveillance, but American officials fear that they haven't identified all of them, several senior officials told ABC News in interviews begining last October.

While the nation was preoccupied with angry protests in Ferguson, Mo., explosive new developments are emerging at the U.S. southern border. A news story surfaced today indicating that there are signs pointing to a direct ISIS terror connection at the U.S. border with Mexico.

Citizens who have constantly warned that the lack of attention to the illegal alien crisis would lead to Islamic terrorists crossing the border into the United States from Mexico are expressing alarm at the latest developments.

Breitbart is reporting that U.S. Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, stated during a news forum that Mexican drug cartels are in regular talks with the dangerous Islamist terrorist organization ISIS.

In the Middle East, ISIS has seized large sections of territory in Iraq and Syria. The group is so brutal that even Muslims who are part of al Qaeda express alarm over their tactics. In the areas they have seized, ISIS has slaughtered, abused, enslaved, and beheaded hundreds of Christians and Jews living in the region. The latest victim of ISIS barbarism was American journalist James Foley, whom the U.S. confirmed today was beheaded by ISIS in a gruesome video.

How, then, can the United States successfully address this growing problem? An obvious starting point is to begin to strictly enforce immigration law. But it must go much further. The border fence which was passed into law and approved by Congress in 2004 must be completed. And it must be tall enough to do the job. Double fenced and even triple fenced portions of the border are needed. Barbed wire should be placed at the top of the fences. National Guard troops should be sent to the border as Gov. Rick Perry ordered in Texas. They should be armed and given orders to shoot illegal aliens attempting to cross the fences in spite of repeated warnings to stop.

Extremist, you say? Not if you want to prevent headchoppers from invading and seizing portions of the United States. And not if you believe that the role of the National Guard is precisely as the name denotes -- to guard the homeland, the nation, from attack. No greater potential for attack exists than that which is represented by drug cartels and Islamist terrorists.

The first group of National Guard troops will staff observation posts in Hidalgo that oversee the border crossing from the US into Mexico. They are supposedly there to back up the Border Patrol and report “suspicious activity.” They will not have the authority to detain anyone; instead their mission will be to “defer and refer” people to Border Patrol agents. However, National Guard troops are armed and are empowered to shoot in claimed “self defense,” significantly escalating tensions in an increasingly militarized area of the US.
