. Why not delay the roll out of women in combat instead?

"The Marine Corps deserves blame that their female recruits can’t do pull-ups as much as it deserves blame for the failure of its male recruits to have babies."

That has to be on the top of my list for 2014, and it's really early yet!

My HH6 was very shocked over this. She was reading the morning paper, she said, WTH has happen to our society. I had to do three in a Grade school to High School. This is crazy, screw them. A women should be able to do five hanging pull ups or chin ups.

If she is bitching, it bad.

I agree. We had the President's Physical Fitness standards when I was in school, and students worked hard to make the President's list. You are now seeing the product of schools discouraging kids from going outside or getting any kind of exercise because "they might get hurt". We had monkey bars in our playground at school, those were the most popular thing! Even the girls would take turns trying to see who could get across the bars the quickest, who could reach the farthest while hanging!

As a police recruit, I had to do a agility test that required my climbing over walls, sprinting, carrying/dragging a 150lb dummy (we actually used other recruits), pushing through a 50 lb weighted door, yada, yada, yada. I had to meet the same standards as the rest of the recruits did. I think we should stop all the male/vs. female standards and have one standard, for everyone.

LoL I remember the President's Physical Fitness and my wife was bring it up too. Yes very sad what our schools are cutting and blaming it on budget cuts. I always ask then why did my property tax go up? Why did the gas, sales, income, general state tax go up then.

There should be only one standard, meet in the middle or something. You will never make everyone happy. So do the best.

Same here. And in school we had PE EVERY day, if it was super frigid out we always had the gym.

I used to love the monkey bars!

Used to be able to do weighted dips @ +135 lbs x 13 reps...at the end of a chest workout.
Weighed about 190 lbs then.

Was skinny and weak as a teenager.
Equal training time for young men will always yield much better results than it will for women.

Testosterone is what it is.
Decades of differing exposure develops different bodies.

Approaching this issue, as it unravels today, is the most surrealistic thing I've experienced of late.
We're ignoring the obvious physiological differences between the sex's as if that isn't an issue in combat.
Convoy combat/base camp combat (what most females have experienced) IS COMBAT...no argument. However, it is physically easy combat except for the stress of the actual moment/event.
No one is humping heavy rucks for days at altitude near dehydration limits.
No one is sweating in the jungles doing the same and getting 4 hours of sleep for days on end. THEN YOU FIGHT...at your most tired, spent, wore ass out.
The contact is generally at a distance with no major foot maneuver.
I drove a car pretty fast once.....I think I should be able to compete in Formula 1.
About the same analogy.

Because I was a leg MP on my first enlistment I went through a co-ed basic training Company at McClellan back in the summer of '81. During PT runs the females were always placed at the head of the column so that they wouldn't fall behind. It was like the males were being held back and cheated in a way.

During Jump School in 1980, they didn't even put the females in the same PT formation.

They fell out for PT separately and did not join us again till duty call.

We passed their formations on the track a time or two, I doubt they were making 10:00 miles.

If I remember correctly we had to do 10 pull ups in Jump school too...this prior to female paratroopers.

Just to briefly address the Brietbart article, I'm sure I'm not the only one the distinctly remembers 17 some odd years ago when the Army changed its APFT grading scale such that the 17-21 age group performance standards became easier than the 21-28 age group standards. I think this lack of fitness issue has been around for some time, we've just been ignoring it to plus up manpower to meet wartime demand for 12+ years.

I remember running past the first three females going through jump school. They were two-three classes behind ours. They were still having remedial PT while their class was training and we were just starting out in Ground week. This was circa February 1975.

A couple years later, I was meeting up with some buds in the 82d (they flunked 300F-1) and there were those gals, now jump qualified. They were holding court on the steps of their very own exclusive purpose built brand fucking new barracks with a hoard of flea hounds sniffin around.

Another couple years later, one of those gals ends up in my ROTC class. Circa January 1979. She turned out a pretty good officer - as skanks go.

It's a small damn Army.
