Had this been my son I'd find those "police officers" and deal with them in the same manner.

How can this practice exist so easily? Definitely no consensual encounter, no reasonable suspicion, not even a Terry vs. Ohio pat down. This sounds more like a KGB operation. It appears the Constitution is being trampled at an alarming rate while sheep stand by and watch. In some areas, the media goes crazy at police misconduct. Here, it appears to be overlooked. Is the media that biased they will turn the other way when it is for a liberal agenda?
That's very disappointing to see.
A bit like seeing NYPD Hercules cops all tooled up in black with body armour, kevlar helmets, M4 to the front, and sunglasses on.
The guys who trained me would kick my ass 7 ways to Sunday if I did that in public where the threat level didn't dictate the need for it.
We were taught to reduce/mitigate the risk of intimidating indigenous folks overseas with helmets strapped/soft caps on where appropriate, sunglasses OFF when talking to people, and rifles slung and to the side/rear when talking to people.
The intent seems more to intimidate the law abiding, than prepared to deal with criminals.
I may be wrong, but it seems like a different planet from NYC 2000 when I took the missus there. NYPD was all over Times Square, Wall Street, Central Park, 5th Avenue, and the rest of the high profile, high traffic locations back then. It just seemed more discrete and comforting than what appears to be a growing perception of intentional public intimidation.
We talked to a bunch of cops while we did a few laps around Manhattan when we saw them static/unoccupied(who better to ask for the best place close by for coffee, pizza, beer?). Great bunch of helpful guys, but the video makes it sound like a significant culture change since then.
One of the things that worries me about the future is the increasing risk of low level corruption as the GFC continues to grind on people.
I wonder how much the 80's/90's boom played in reducing low level corruption?
Will we see a return to 70's Serpico-like problems on top of the impact on individual liberty/freedom?

No oversight,, quotas and profiling, where is the state government? Why are they not putting an end to this practice? Bloomburg was nothing but a touchy feel good hypocrite more worried about your waistline than the trampling on the basic rights of his citizens. I thank God every day that I do not live out there or in any of the other liberal bastions that pass for states. Things are out of control.

The boss and I were discussing this as we perused the interwebs this morning. My statement (being a NY'er by birth) was: "funny how they all vote Demoncrat and then move to Florida".
People get what they deserve. No more, no less.
I'd be a bit leery of all the "anonymous"stuff. The cops, did in fact, conduct a Terry frisk on the guy. How then did they NOT find the recorder? Why the selective editing? If you look at the form the cops have to fill out it clearly states the reason for stop and the period of observation prior to the stop. Even the anonymous "officers" state that they are encouraged to stack up the forms.
Terry stops are and have been constitutional for years. I am 100 per cent against harassment but I would not jump so quickly to conclusions on a very professionally produced "anonymous" audio.
Terry stops are allowed when you have articulable cause to make the contact. During the contact you may do a pat-down for weapons/contraband. All of this must be recorded on the paperwork. Are cops doing this...??? I don't know.
Cops have a tough job to do, I'd want a bit more evidence other than some kids "audio" and a slickly produced video with anonymous "officers" before I toss them under the bus.

I am sure that there is more to this than meets the eye. However, one of the cops on that audio tape is clearly out of line and there is no excuse for that behavior. As far as "Terry frisks" are concerned, they may be "constitutional", but that is not saying much. Obamacare, Kelo decision, Terry v, Ohio et al. Just another of the many ways the state has figured out how to control its citizenry.
