A suburban Denver student shot at least one other student at a high school Friday before he apparently killed himself, authorities said.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said the shooter entered Arapahoe High School in Centennial armed with a shotgun looking for a teacher he identified by name.
"The teacher began to understand that he was being looked at and exited the school. One student confronted the armed student and was shot," Robinson said.

UPDATES from 6pm briefing:
- 2 students physically hurt, others suffered anxiety attacks
- 1 student remains in critical condition at Littleton Adventist Hospital
- 2 devices, being described as Molotov cocktails, were found inside the school. One had been detonated by the suspect. The 2nd was found by law enforcement and rendered safe.
- Preliminary investigation shows motive for shooting may have stemmed from controversy or disagreement between the shooter and a teacher. Sheriff Grayson Robinson used the word "revenge."
- Arapahoe High School will be closed on Monday. Schedule beyond that has not been determined.
Many students also said that the shooter was bullied and teased by other students. Shooter also brought pictures of his shotgun and other weapons to school to show off.
Holding my breath for the toxicology report on what, if any, ADHD drugs the student was taking.
Seems that with as many kids are on ADHD drugs these days at least some would have been on them.
Has anybody here heard anything on the subject?
Don't think the press will want to beat the drum too hard on this one.....

I can't help but wonder how any of these fools could image any of these tactics without hearing about prior incidence from media accounts, and then again what would drive more folks to the media... Molotov cocktails...really :confused:
Thoughts and prayers to the victims, families, friends, students, and parents. What a shame.
UPDATES from 8:20pm briefing:
- 1 gun shot victim ONLY, 15yo girl in critical condition after undergoing surgery this afternoon. At this time, investigation does not indicate she was a target of the gunman.
- Another student was thought to be shot but was not. Student and EMT's thought she was shot because of blood on her from the shooting victim.
- Identity of the shooter has been released. xxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx, age 18. He was in school today; was not under suspension.
- Roads around school will open tonight around 9.
- Students can retrieve their cars and personal property from the west lot of the school at 8am tomorrow.
- Entire school is a crime scene and remains closed. A time for the school's opening for students to retrieve property will be announced tomorrow.

The late gunman, Karl Pierson, must have had some serious issues, not to mention fanatical political beliefs, if he was willing to execute the teacher that had him either demoted or kicked off the debate team. The debate team?!! Holy crap.:eek:

Now the shooter is described by a fellow student as being "very opinionated."

No word yet on any medication. Some speculate a number of these shooters have been on medication.

yep, as discussed here a few times before and I learned at ICP Active Threat Mitigation First Responder: Once you burst their bubble of romanticized-I-am-g-o-d-invincible-etc., these cowards resort to "default" mode
I've been thinking some sort of psyop to hit straight in their psyche. Something along of extremely loud beam-directional speaker with chopper blades sound and fx of glass breaking, ricochet, and an entire platoon blasting .338 into his general vicinity.
Of course, probably that wont fare well liability wise with other occupants....not to mention the ACLU or media portraying responders as forcing our poor outcast into killing him/herself

The Sheriff reported after viewing video tapes from within the school that that the SRO ( deputy ) confronted the fool within 80 seconds.
The Sheriff in his after action report to the Media also refused to mention the fools name, wish the press would do the same...

Not necessarily true, you forget the time a Special Forces soldier disarmed an active shooter on Ft Bragg while out running PT? IMO it has nothing to do with being armed it has everything to do with mindset.
There's more than one video/article out there of unarmed individuals going medieval and taking armed idiots to the cleaners..... ;)

Agree 3,000%. In fact, most mass or school shootings are halted by unarmed civilians prior to LE arrival. Most of these folks have no military or police training. That said, I think arming qualified teachers/school staff is a good thing.

I have been caught places without a gun, yeah I know.....
That said you need to have a plan on what you'd do if some progressive/socialist walks into Walmart with an AK-47.
One moron progressive cannot see 360 degrees and one Walmart baseball bat will end the socialist rampage as well as a .45 round.
A school has many weapons, three long sharp pencils to the eye socket or neck will go a long way, shoe laces as a garrote also works wonders. Snap that wooden yardstick in half and you can treat the progressive as a vampire and put it through his heart. Lot's of weapons, just need mindset to execute. And when unarmed remember, "Surprise, Speed and Violence of Action" will assist in winning the day!

Larson Ross, 18, a debate team captain, said Pierson had become angrier since his argument with the debate coach in September.
"It seemed like he was attacking people to try and elicit a response, and in doing so he would put himself above that person on a mental level," Ross said. "It started making it tough for a lot of people to be his friend."
Changes in Pierson were so apparent, Ross said, that his friends were talking about whether they needed to tell someone that he might be "going off the edge."
One hour after that discussion, Pierson burst into the school with a shotgun.
