Once again Military.com "gets the scoop"! I do have to admit some of the article's comments are hilarious.

(We've been tracking this at work for 2+ years now. A lot of people have already put considerable work into making this a reality.)

Dont be sad that you have never seen this wonderful parachute Billy,

I am sure that it will be fielded heavily to those guys to replace the almost square, T11.

...I'll bet this thing flies really stable in deep brakes.

It probably has a really comfortable sub-harness also.

A friend of mine has been one of the testers. Says it's very comfortable, smooth and responsive.

If any of you MFF guys want to speak with him, I'll pass his contact info. He's a 88M that was in 1st Bn, 3rd Group for a while and GSB.

Yes.....88M. FWIW :D

So will the orthopedic surgeons......

But fear not, after a dozen or so die from entanglements, hook turns and landing without flaring the rest of the army airborne will return once again to round parachutes.

The square is not forgiving.

The RA-1 is the MC-4 replacement. It is not a replacement for the T-11 (a funny shaped sorta round chute that replaced the MC-1). Only those units who were using the MC-4 will get it. It may be more widely available to SF units but that's another discussion.

We were talking about getting replacements for the MC-4 back in 2006 along with the military Cypres. I never saw either in group before I retired in 2008 (I think they were sewing in the pouches for the MilCypres into the MC-4's when I was leaving).

Before I went SF, LRSD units were talking about the MC-5 static line deployable MC-4 back in the 90's.

This isn't new news, this is rehash of stuff people have been trying to get for decades.
