Found this link where a couple of professional colorists got together and colored in old pics from the US Civil War.

I think they did a fairly good job. Not at all that crappy attempt Ted Turner tried to do when he colorized old films.

1. Trapper (with his medals) telling another one of those "There I Was" tales to one of the new guys.
2. Dusty after he finally caught that Barr.
3. MR2 (L) and TS (R) critiquing changes to the new dress uniform.

Interesting seeing all of those personalities from the Civil War in color. I like the one of the three confederate soldiers the best.

They really bring the Civil War to life.

It really does, doesn't it. Seeing that we see in color, looking at pictures like that/this does indeed bring it "to life" in your mind's eye.

Of those posted my favorites are the one of Lincoln, Chamberlin, Longstreet and Mark Twain. Although what interests me most about Twain's picture was I was immediately drawn to the back of his left hand ..... looks like I could jab a 14g in that sucker without a TK. :D

ETA ... The picture of Lewis Powell looks like an actor's head shot right out of central casting, for a Civil War remake today.

The picture of the three Confederate prisoners at Gettysburg is my all time favorite Civil War image. Although they are now POWs, they are still defiant and undefeated. It is a powerful image in sepia tones, much more so in color.

These are amazingly well-done. Thanks for sharing.

I spent some time at their actual collections in Facebook. Many more photos, from every era and well worth the look for any history buff.
