Obama wants Marines to wear "girly" hat

http://nypost.com/2013/10/23/obama-wants-marines-to-wear-girly-hats/

"A change to the Marine Corps’ uniform hats could take the hard-nosed Leathernecks from the Halls of Montezuma to the shops of Christopher Street.

Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps with a new hat that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush......"

First I don't think the President it "telling" anybody.

Second I think the hat does look a little strange.

Third - Tell Dan Daly he's wearing a girly cap...

You would think there were more important matters to deal with than f-ing with hats.

No, when a house is on fire you must be concerned with the drapes and whether they match the kitchen sink.

Nothing more than a press to fill the military ranks with spineless fucks willing to follow the dicttates of some future "Dear Leader".

Dilute THE historic bastion of true men with malingering space takers.
Cause future men to abhor the institution.

Really?

1. I doubt the POTUS gives two hoots or a holler about what hat the Marines choose to wear.

2. The Marines wore a similar hat at the turn of the 20th Century (attchd pic USMC uniforms 1899). I wonder what those Marines would think of your "informed" opinion.

3. This looks like a move by the Marines to return to some of its historical roots as was done by the Army's recent change in its dress uniforms.

4. Meh.

MOO.

After skimming SGM Daly's bio...I'd say the SGM would fight with anything that he was issued and woe be unto anyone in his way.

Really.

Richard, my point is, is that there appears to be a continual forward action to fundamentally change historically martial, and moral fraternities into limp, middle of the road, androgynistic, pop culture.

The action is not about the hat, it's about rewarding participation.

Similar to taking the Ranger's Black Beret and passing it out Army wide as a minimum standard accomplishment.

Totems or icons that represent success or valor are often the first draw of young men entering service.
Denigrating these standards will push away the next generation of those capable of attaining those time honored standards.

Or, Richard, maybe it's ok for me to wear a Long Tab from the PX because I went to Selection and failed?

Wondering how you are pounding all that into calling the "Dan Daly" cap 'girly'?

Going back to a historic cap as guidence for updating the uniform.......

“The Marine Corps is being ‘encouraged’ by DoD to standardize on a unisex/universal dress and service cap,” Marine brass noted in an internal memo obtained by The Post.

The above, from the article, and too many anthropological studies.

So if the article was worded differnt it could be said that all females will be forced to wear the manly Dan Daly cap?

Key phrase being "a unisex look for the Corps".

I would prefer "Continue to aspire to be like Dan Daly, who was not unisex nor will ever be. "

Personally, I don't like it. I like our current ones better, but, that is simply my opinion.

I have a much larger issue with the money that is being spent on something that is truly useless to our war-fighting capabilities, but hey, who is keeping track.

Could it be that the idea was really Michelle's....She is such a fashion statement in her own right....:D

Michelle: Honey, why do the female Marines guards have to wear a different hat?

Obozo: Not sure baby, but I'll fix it. You know I'm good at fixing stuff.

Looking at both styles of headgear the larger ones that the males wear look like they offer more protection from the sun and rain. Larger hats also look more authoritative and commanding.

Make the split tails start wearing the larger hats.

Yes, it is a throw back to an earlier style worn by Dan Daley.
Yes, it does look odd and outdated, like a shako.
Yes, O is most certainly clueless in regard to this move,in addition to "healthcare deform."
No, I don't like the Dan Daley hat.
No, I don't know if it comes threaded to the right or left to screw on and unscrew off of Jarheads.
Yes, once a Jarhead, always a Jarhead.
Yes, I'm glad I'll never have to wear one.

So to Pete's point, you object to the way the article was written.

MOO, I will not think less of Marines whichever hat they don. I prefer the larger one as I am accustomed to it and I am a creature of habit. Unisex gear does not equate to effeminate to me. Usually, it just makes women look more butch.

Is this really in his job description (or Moochelle's)?

Both quotes from the NY Post - so which is it?

Didn't the Army go thru angst over giving everyone a beret a couple of years ago?

To symbolize The Army's commitment to transforming itself into the Objective Force, The Army will adopt the black beret for wear Army-wide. It is not about increasing recruiting; we achieved our recruiting target of 180,000 recruits last year--without a beret. It is not about retention; for the second year in a row, we exceeded our reenlistment goal by a wide margin--without a beret. It is not about morale; Soldiers are ready today to go into harm's way. It is about our excellence as Soldiers, our unity as a force, and our values as an institution.

Effective 14 June 2001, the first Army birthday in the new millennium, the black beret will become standard wear in The Army--Active and Reserve Components.

- Shinseki

Yep - but that one was in 2001 and Bush's fault.

McPeake did it to the Air Force in the early '90s.

I want to see the POTUS wear the new hat for a while when he goes out.

Then we can call it an ass hat!

Not the POTUS deciding what the design of it should be.

So why don't they just adopt a stetson. :munchin

Kind of like the type worn by Marines during the siege of Beijing. ( See Charlton Heston in "55 Days at Peking.") The "Boxers" intentionally avoided the sections of wall defended by Marines. "When the men in wide hats shoot, someone dies."
