Astounding. Whatever happened to just calling in sick if you're unable to take the test?

Former Staff Sergeant Stabbed To Avoid PT Test
AFTimes, 22 July 2013

A former staff sergeant at Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., tried to get out of her physical training test by recruiting someone to stab her in the stomach.

A military judge last month sentenced Alison Mona, 61st Communications Squadron, to 90 days in jail and busted her three ranks to an E-2 after she pleaded guilty in a special court-martial to filing a false police report and making two false official statements.

Mona told San Diego police Feb. 27 she was grabbing a smoke outside her house before work when she saw someone standing by her car and decided to check it out, according to the charge sheet. “The person pulled my hair, stabbed me in the stomach and ran off,” she reportedly told a detective.

A few days later, on March 6, she offered another account of the stabbing, the charge sheet said. “A man jumped out from the side of the bushes, yanked my hair, pulling my head downward, and shoved what I think was a knife through my side.” She gave a description of the alleged assailant: dark hooded sweater, jeans and dark tennis shoes.

Neither version was true, however.

Mona had enlisted someone to stab her “for the purpose of avoiding her Air Force Physical Training Test,” according to the charging document. The name of the person who stabbed her was redacted.

Following a two-day sentencing hearing, the military judge sentenced Mona to confinement at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., reduction in rank to E-2, forfeiture of $1,805, and an official reprimand.

Mona could not be reached by phone, said Leslie Jewell, director of public affairs at Los Angeles Air Force Base. Mona declined a written interview request via U.S. mail, Jewell said.

The prosecution and defense attorneys would not comment, per Space Command policy, said Lt. Col. Andy Roake, spokesman for Air Force Space Command.

Mona’s commanding officer also couldn’t be reached.

Judy Groomes, Air Force staff sergeant, allegedly gets husband to shoot her to avoid deployment

(CBS/AP) BOSSIER CITY, La. - Air Force staff sgt. Judy Groomes, a woman trying to avoid a military deployment, allegedly had her husband shoot her and then lied to investigators, telling them she'd been shot by an intruder.

Police say Judy Groomes, 25, was treated for wounds on both of her legs from one round from a handgun fired by her husband, 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher Tyquan Groomes, reports CBS affiliate KSLA.

Both are active military based at nearby Barksdale Air Force Base. According to a statement from Barksdale, Judy Groomes was scheduled to be deployed to Southwest Asia in the coming months.

Groomes allegedly claimed an intruder shot her early Friday while her husband and two children slept. But police say she convinced her husband to shoot her to avoid military service.

Christopher Groomes was arrested on a gun charge. Judy Groomes faces a criminal mischief charge for allegedly filing a false police report.

I wonder if that was reported as a sexual assault?

FYI...I know a few Marines out that way that would have been willing to "stab her in the guts" to get outta PT!

I don't blame her .... the Air Force PT Test is a real killer!

Run 1.5 miles in 14.5 minutes! (Men get 12.5 minutes.)

Females are required to do 35 crunches within 1 minute, 18 push-ups within 1 minute; and a mile-and-a-half run in 14.5 minutes. (Unless that lofty standard has changed.)

I was in the USAF (until they found out my parents WERE married, so I was later allowed to join the Army) for my first five years ('73-'78). At that time we were required to run and/or walk the 1.5 miles in 12 minutes (or was it 20 minutes then?).

I'll bet ya a sawbuck to a doughnut that her girth exceeded even USAF standards.

Whatever happened to doing PT?

Or is that an optional, individual decision now?

Workout.....puncture wound....workout....puncture wound.... decisions, decisions.
