Okay, MS Internet Explorer has been problematic for me, and really shit the bed this past weekend.
Lock-ups, crashes, freezes, frame problems, you name it.
In desperation, I downloaded Firefox, and other than the fact that most of my bookmarks did not make the transition, I am very pleased with it thus far, and it seems to be rock solid, particularly in comparison with MSIE.
What am I missing, if anything (other than a Google toolbar, and I replaced my default search engine with duckduckgo.com), by not using Internet Explorer?
School me.

Every time I have downloaded Firefox is has failed to carry all of my bookmarks over with it. I have since been using Chrome and like it a lot.
I find Chrome is actually quicker on my iPad than Safari is.

TR, I have been using Firefox exclusively for years. Try importing from IE again, I had 100% transfer when I changed over years ago. I have played with Google Chrome, Opera and Google Chrome. Each has a different strength and only Google Chrome seems to be on par and it takes a bit of getting used. All beat the pants off of IE.
Been on Firefox for MANY years now. Wouldn't even think about switching back. Once or twice a year I may find a page that doesn't play well with Firefox and that's wen I just fire up IE.
I agree on the bookmarks. Try importing them again and they should all come over.
If you aren't too invested in Firefox yet, I would seriously recommend Chrome.
It is very clean and intuitive, yet adds simple features like the ability to highlight a word and automatically search Google for it.
It also allows easy management of extensions and tools. Furthermore, it has been reliable in helping to make sure I only download what I intend to.

fng - I have been playing with Chrome now for about three months on my laptop and do like it.
There is a pretty good article that I read a few months ago at PCMag.com, that looks at IE, Firefox, Chrome, Maxthon, and Opera.
Browser Article (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2365692,00.asp)
I usually use IE, but I like the customizability of Firefox, the speed of Chrome, the P2P-centric main page of Maxthon, and the streamlined interface of Opera. I even have Safari loaded to try something different once in a while...:D
This seems to answer your question more directly, the article compares the four main operating systems. imo Chrome is the future.

I had moved on from IE and Chrome was my first choice, however, as Google's privacy policy and user-data methods were revealed, along with targeted advertising following browser sessions I went "tin-foil" and stopped using it.
Firefox is now my browser of choice. Is it any less invasive of my privacy...? Probably not. Meh
I did not have any issues with importing "Favorites" from IE. It went quite smoothly.
I'm on the firefox wagon, I only use IE for MS updates.
My current complaint is JAVA. The latest level, that went in a couple weeks ago, is having a lot of problems with many sites.

That JAVA version created many issues and they have released an update to fix those issues.
Try to manually update at java dot com and see it that helps.
Only problem I have with Firefox is that I am unable to use my CAC reader with it.

Another long term Firefox user. Once I had an issue with the bookmarks not transferring over. A quick uninstall and reinstall fixed that.
Went from chrome to FF. Easy transfer of all book marks and favs. FF is also the best for not sharing you info. It was one of the few not on the NSA list. I have to use IE at work. When I use it. It reminds me of something I would see on my 3 year olds play computer.
FF certainly wins for spyware and pop up blocking. Over time, my guess is Chrome will win with more resources put on it. As they stand today, either beats IE by a long shot (a country mile comes to mind). You can"t go wrong with FF when IE is your basis for comparison. I don't think we have anyone left in the office who stayed with IE.

Have used Firefox with no issues. Currently use Chrome, again with no issues. My MAC came with Safari as the OS browser, and I use it for some things; just like Chrome better.

Sorry for the delay.
TR,
If re-installing Firefox doesn't read all your bookmarks it may be a logical disk error. This could be especially true if your computer lost power. You could try running Command (cmd, Accessories Folder) as Administrator and type 'chkdsk /f' * WARNING: If your disk is really screwed doing this could make it worse including making stuff unusable.* Make Backups before attempting! It should say the disk is busy do you want to fix it the next restart, select yes. Restart computer, install Firefox, export from IE, then try to import into Firefox. If it doesn't work IE bookmark file got corrupted somehow.
Chrome (Chromium for devices, Linux) is the best built and probably is the best for performance (haven't lab tested it). THOUGH, it does regularly send info to an IP address which usually resolves to something like 1e1000.com (IP starts with 74.) Haven't dumped the packets but it could be a privacy issue. I do know for sure that some recent versions of IE were sending telemetry data to ms. Firefox appears to be the more private of the bunch.
Hope that helps some

Thanks guys.
Firefox is running very stably, especially compared to IE. I was able to reimport bookmarks and they all come over this time. I just need to clean them up.
No interest in Chrome, I felt that Google was abusing my privacy plenty already, so I changed search engines as well, picked one which is allegedly annonymous named DuckDuckGo on the advice of a friend.
I am much happier not having to deal with the frame errors and reloading.
Goodbye MiSerIE.

TR,
I utilize numerous browsers for testing purposes during website design. A friend of mine recommended SRWare Iron (http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php) as it is built on the Chromium engine but does not have the privacy concerns that Google Chrome does. I use Firefox, Opera, Torch, Iron, Chrome, IE, etc. and have had very smooth browsing and stability with SRWare Iron and Firefox. IE is the worst of the bunch in my opinion.

For those that like FF, there is another Mozilla based browser that is an offshoot of the old Netscape Navigator. I use it as my main browser. Many of the Add-ons available in FF are also available for:
Seamonkey (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/)
FF users will see a strong family resemblance to FF. I particularly like the integrated "Mail and Newsgroup" that has its own window similar to Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/features/) program for FF.

The CNET download manager (aka downloads.com) is unfriendly. Use direct download only with extreme caution.

I've been using Firefox for years. Some of the "add-ons" are very useful, such as Ad-Block Plus and No-Squint.
The only problem I have with it is on the Amazon website. The "add to cart" button is missing. I've searched for an answer as to why Amazon and Firefox don't play nice and haven't solved it yet. When I want to order from Amazon, I use Safari.

I do not have that problem with Firefox and Amazon.

Amazon has excellent customer service. Have you checked with them to see if they have any idea why you might be having an issue?
It's interesting that others don't have the same issue with Amazon and Firefox.
Edited to add: Oh, just solved it. Thinking of the add-ons I mentioned above triggered an idea. I decided to disable Ad Block Plus. That did the trick.
S.
Amazon has done this deliberately in order to keep you from blocking their ads/popups.
You may consider using "Element Hiding Helper for Ad-Block" to fine tune certain ads and JAVA/Flash annoyances.
I also use "Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon"
Everyone should also consider "DoNotTrackMe" as well.

Excellent tips. I will follow up with those. Thank you.

I like OrigamiBrowser. It makes guessing wrong on BlackBerry's promise to port BB10 to the PlayBook worthwhile.
(MOO, Firefox is better than Chrome for research but Chrome has the edge when it comes to, ah, er...social media.:D)
