Dutch special forces are in a standoff with an unknown number of suspected militants who wounded three officers during the initial raid on their house. The suspects threw a grenade, and there have been exchanges of gunfire. Authorities would not say whether the raid was related to the murder of Theo Van Gogh.

The Omar al-Mukhtar Brigade of the Jamaat al-Tawhid al-Islamiya issued a statement via the Internet on Nov. 9 warning of attacks in the Netherlands if the Dutch government does not stop broadcasts "hostile" to Muslims and does not apologize to the Muslim community for the recent string of attacks on mosques and a school in the wake of the killing of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh. In August, the brigade had threatened the Netherlands and Italy with attack if their troops were not withdrawn from Iraq.

An explosion believed to be a bombing damaged an Islamic School in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, early Nov. 8. The incident marked the latest attack against Muslim facilities since Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh was killed. The suspect in that case is a Dutch Moroccan and suspected Islamist militant.
