I am looking for a way to confirm a persons credentials who claims to be a former Navy SEAL. He has apporached my company offering his services in the area of Defensive Tatics. He is a Gracie BJJ practitioner, but also claims Navy SEAL membership from the early 80's to early 90's. He also claims CIA membership following his time in the Teams. I am sceptical as my expereince of being around those in the SPECOPS commmunity is they usually don't speak of such things. I work with a confirmed former CIA guy who tells people he was in overseas government work and never says he was CIA. Also, I know there are a lot of frauds out there resume embelishing. Obviously I can ask for his DD214, but those can be altered. I could do an open records request for his military records, but I was hoping for something a little quicker. His name is George Drew and he resides in Salt Lake City. If someone knows of a way for quicker confirmation I would appreciate it. If not, I appreciate your time anyway.

Your company is hiring a guy to teach you ju-jitsu and he thinks it's necessary to say he worked for the cia? Since he's willing to divulge he worked for the cia in a certain capacity (presuming he went there from the navy and didn't have an intermediary college or graduate degree) you have to wonder what type of "defense" he could teach when he's setting himself up for a bad (at worst) or awkward and time-staking (at best) situation if he runs into the right (or wrong) person while disclosing those "facts."

You can contact these guys and ask them - they have access to the database for anybody who has ever graduated SEAL/UDT training.

Good luck.

Where did the OP say that? :munchin

Besides, OP, what difference does it make whether he was a SEAL or lying about being one? Same-same. Find a FOG GB and put him in the ring with the guy for 3 minutes. If the so-called SEAL lives through the bout, hire him.
