Too many commanders have ignored the problem and failed to take a critical look at themselves and their units, Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army's chief of Staff, said in opening the Army's 6th annual Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) conference at Andrews Air Force Base.

Couple the original post with commanders not being able to overturn improper court-martial convictions* and the UCMJ may literally turn into the thought police, er, thought army. How long until going to a strip club while enlisted becomes a "crime?"

For some reason that link isn't opening but I am familiar with the 2005 Executive Order 13387 spelling out the elements of the "crime" and the attendant punishment.

You don't think there's a huge difference between asking a woman for casual sex or flirting with a co-worker versus helping traffic sex slaves? And since you think the above-referenced "trafficking in persons" UCMJ statutes are relevant to the link I posted, do you think going to a strip club while enlisted should fall under the 2005 UCMJ reg?

I neither stated nor implied they were, and would assume most people understand these are not simple matters which lend themselves to simple, blanket solutions.

Attached is the previously mentioned DOD's position.

What do you think about it?

Yeah, we need to kick more good soldiers out of the military for having impure thoughts.

And so it goes...

<nip>The Army has formally suspended Lt. Col. Joseph L. Miley, commander of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion at Fort Greely, Alaska., according to an Army statement.

Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica, the commander of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command, suspended Miley today after an investigation into possible misconduct within the Alaska Army National Guard battalion.

“He was suspended until further notice by Gen. Formica, the commander of SMDC/ARSTRAT,” said Marco Morales, a spokesman for the command. “He’s still in the area, but he’s not the commander anymore.”

Formica’s action follows a call from Alaska’s U.S. senators for a thorough investigation into allegations he condoned adultery and fraternization on the post.<snip>

<nip>Bloomberg News has reported that the investigation stems from Miley saying in a Jan. 4 meeting that adultery isn’t punishable under military law unless it involves violating a “no-contact order.” Bloomberg News cited an anonymous source who claimed fraternization and sexual misconduct subsequently increased.<nip>

Should Congress be held to the same standard?

So, visiting a strip club is now illegal? I didn't read that from the EO or in DODI 2200.1.

I wonder if the Bottoms Up is still in business. Rick's Lounge?

If Congress takes away Command authority in this instance you will start a trend that may have 2nd and 3rd order of effects that will be huge.
Either you have Command authority or you do not.
Either you have trust and confidence or you do not.
There is no middle ground.
When our warrior culture is exposed, re exposed and beaten down by PC agenda's what will be the end result.
Another Euro Peace keeping force with unions, advocates, and a reluctance to close with and kill our enemies.

Perhaps they should just be held to a standard, any standard........

Oh, the Bottoms Up. Great place to get a beer at 0900 on Saturday morning while studying O&I crap.

Then get rid of that leadership but do not change the command matrix...dual chains of command do not work.

You actually support this stuff? Look I've prosecuted sex crimes and it's nasty business. It's a slap in the face to any rape or molestation victim to equate having a consensual affair or looking at gyrating nude women paying for medical school with their plight.

Yes, I know technically having an affair is a military no-no. But these rules were written a long time ago and don't take into consideration modern wives gaining 100 lbs of fat during their husband's deployment or the amount of females having affairs. Do MPs back on base police the wives? What about unmarried soldiers? They shouldn't be allowed to try to fornicate with females off-base? Pickup lines are now verboten?
