“Users are not to use AF NIPRNET systems to access the Verizon phone records collection and other related news stories because the action could constitute a Classified Message Incident.”Just my opinion, one possibility is that they are issuing the caution due to potential - real or imagined - of a WikiLeaks-type issue. (Just because something got outed does NOT mean it's de facto declassified.)
If so, it was pretty poorly worded.
NIPRNET filters getting their software updated in 3....2....
"Verizon" and "NSA" can join the search table along with "patriot" "Tea Party" and others.
There went someone's online bill-pay mechanism.
I read the NOTAM the same way and agree it's not well worded. I read its intent as a warning of possible security reg violations if accesing the actual linked docs, either the Verizon docs or the court docs related to it ("other news"), and not news in general on the subject.
On another note, this statement as to why Snowden claims he chose Hong Kong to reveal the info made me go
He said he chose China because "they have a spirited commitment to free speech and the right of political dissent."

Former CIA Officer: Intel Considering NSA Whistleblower 'Potential Chinese Espionage'
Former CIA officer Bob Baer said on CNN Sunday evening officials are speculating that Edward Snowden's whistleblowing could be "potential Chinese espionage." Snowden came forward yesterday and identified himself as the leaker of the NSA's massive surveillance operation.
Snowden revealed he was currently located in Hong Kong.
“It’s [Hong Kong's] not an independent part of China at all. I’ve talked to a bunch of people in Washington today, in official positions, and they are looking at this as a potential Chinese espionage case,” said Baer.
When he was asked if there was a possibility to extradite Snowden, Baer responded, “We’ll never get him in China. They’re not about to send him to the United States and the CIA is not going to render him, as he said in the tape, is not going to try to grab him there.”
President Obama recently met with China's Presdent Xi Jinping where they discussed issues of cybersecurity.
Baer said, "“It almost seems to me that this was a pointed affront to the United States on the day the president is meeting the Chinese leader,” Baer said, “telling us, listen, quit complaining about espionage and getting on the internet and our hacking. You are doing the same thing.”

Simple enough tactic to drop an incident like this into the public view. No Such Agency has had the ability to do this for decades. Nothing new here, except keeping up with the times.
And of course, who really are the terrorists these days? I'm waiting for Big Sis to tell me, or do I fall into that category as a Vet?
“We’ll never get him in China. They’re not about to send him to the United States and the CIA is not going to render him, as he said in the tape, is not going to try to grab him there.” I never under estimate what our country is capable of if we put minds to it.
In any event suspect he'll realize how free he actually is after awhile, spy or not. :D
