View Full Version : NHL Playoffs
I've been saying this since I watched the Maple Leafs dismantle us in 1994, but, this is the Shark's year. Niemi will be the key. :munchin I apologize in advance to you Caps fans that are getting your hopes up.
GO HAWKS!!!!!!
There is nothing better than playoff hockey.

ETA can't help but think of Big Teddy when commenting on NHL playoffs - he sure loved this time of year. You are sorely missed BT.

Indeed, and a big Hawks fan. I'm sure he's watching from up there, having a beer and a shot with the Colonel.

Why do you think the Hawks are the President's trophy winner this year?
I'm sure Big Teddy had "something" to do with that. ;)
In fact, I have a feeling that the Hawks will be hoisting some hardware this year. :D
I sure do miss the old walrus. :(

I was thinking about Big Teddy as I was watching the Hawks beat up on our overmatched Wild. I am certain he has a great seat.

Bruins are getting better the further they go!

Didn't make the playoffs .... Hell my Avalanche didn't even show up for the season. The only reason they got the first round pick in the lottery is because they stopped the Hawks win streak. Sounds kind of conflicting doesn't it? :p
....and, as long time members of this board know, my two NHL teams are .... The Colorado Avalanche and who ever beats the Red Wings (suck). :D

Traitor.
The Hawks haven't lost more than 2 games in a row this season. I surely hope they win tomorrow and take this series.
Traitor.
MSCP,
I've never really been a Hawks fan.
Yes I grew up in the Chicago-land area and am a loyal Cubs fan (Why, I'll never know. I must be a glutton for punishment), but back then, my NHL teak was the Minnesota North Stars.
Up until that fateful night in March of 1993, when the North Stars moved to Dallas  , I never wanted anything to do with the NHL ever again.
Until the Gods took pity on me and moved the Avalanche down from Quebec.
But as I said earlier, I think the Hawks are going to be raising some hardware this season. :D

Ahh the Quebec Nordiques. I went up there once, saw a game against the Indianapolis Racers. Traveled up there with the team actually. :D Great fun!
I surely hope so!
GO HAWKS!
Kick some ass on Wednesday and put this series to bed. :lifter

Bruin's let the Penquins know the series will not be easy.
I'd like to see a Chicago-Boston Stanley Cup final.
With a Chicago win of course. :D

That would be a great matchup - just need a different result :D
This year's quest for the Stanley Cup should be particularly competitive.
"The final four teams in the NHL playoffs feature the last four champions for the second time in league history and for the first time since 1945, when the league consisted of just the Original Six."

Uhmmmm....Hello, Pittsburgh?
Unexpected. Not disappointed....just unexpected. 2-0 heading back home...:lifter but it's more than just a 2-0 series lead... it's the goal differential.
Go B's
Bruins are giving the Pens a lesson in hockey right now. They are now showing that they have finesse.

I've been a Hawks fan ever since I saw the Wirtz' 123 foot yacht in Fort Lauderdale when I was just a teenager! I remember it having a helicopter on board and two full sized recreational boats. Big Blackhawks logo on the yacht as well. Growing up in Florida, there weren't a lot of hockey fans to hang out with (although we did have more than our fare share of Canadian snowbirds!). I still pull for them as my favorite hockey team all these years later.

The old man really did nothing for the team, his son has truly brought the Hawks and hockey back to life again in Chicago. Allowing the games to be televised was one of THE smartest things he changed when he took over.

True, but that doesn't change the reason I am a Hawks fan! That big ass friggin boat/ship is what made me a fan way back when! I didn't even know who the "old man" was! :)
From a pure hockey point of view the Pens/Bruins game last night was a good one. From a Pen's fan point of view, the result sucked. Boston is on a real tear, their goalie is playing out of his mind. I'll have to tune into the Kings/Blackhawks game tonight, I've heard it is an equally good series.

I'm OK with the result...:D but agree both goalies stepped up last night. Shots on goal were crazy...with the Pens delivering 50+ to the Bruins 40... Friday's game will be epic.

'Tis. The Kings are a very physical team. I don't think my Hawks are playing very well in LA, not consistently anyway. I dislike the Kings in general... :p

Should be an excellent Cup series.
Here's what they are saying about TV coverage at the moment.
It's the first Original Six pairing in the Cup Final since 1979.
The series will be televised on NBC in the U.S., while CBC and RDS will televise it in Canada.
Here's the full schedule for the 2013 Stanley Cup Final (all times ET):
Game 1: Wednesday, June 12, at Chicago, 8 p.m.
Game 2: Saturday, June 15, at Chicago, 8 p.m.
Game 3: Monday, June 17, at Boston, 8 p.m.
Game 4: Wednesday, June 19, at Boston, 8 p.m.
Game 5: Saturday, June 22, at Chicago, 8 p.m.
Game 6: Monday, June 24, at Boston, 8 p.m.
Game 7: Wednesday, June 26, at Chicago, 8 p.m.

Maybe. It's hard to really gauge how the series will go given that the season was shortened to only in-conference opponents.

Tough loss B's - well played Chicago - a battle of attrition in game one.

OK, first blood drawn. Tough battle on Chicago's home ice.
Big break between game one and two... time to adjust, tighten the skates and get the split on Saturday taking it back to the Garden.
Go B's
What a game...my Hawks prevailed!
I'll tell you what, there is no better sports event than the Stanley Cup finals.
I need a nap. :D
Great game. Hawks can definitely match up against the physicality of the Bruins. My 5 game prediction is out the window.
WOW !
Another OT game !
Bruins spilt on the road...now back to Boston with an even series !

Way to go Bruins!
Great job bouncing back and taking the split back to home ice. Far fewer shots on goal last night.
This is going to be a grind.
Great hockey.:lifter
Good game by the Bruins. The Hawks have GOT to start scoring on the power play.
Then again there was that controversial early whistle that disallowed Hossa's goal. NBC's replay showed the puck crossing the goal line but what you cannot hear is if there was a whistle prior to it. The ref lost sight of the puck, I get that but geez let the play go on. Not the first time they've prematurely made a call but too late now.
Next!
Bruins penalty kill specialists were huge!
Good win.
More work to do - stay focused B's !
Another OT game 6-5 Hawks in one of the most exciting games of the year.
Series tied returning to Chicago.
This is turning into an epic Final series.
Go B's !

From this point onward the NHL got it right with the playoff locations alternating back and forth.
Boston's gotta step it up on the road in Chicago!
2-2
A tough, hard-played series so far, with two hard-nosed and talented teams playing within the rules and spirt of the game.
And, whether either Boston or Chicago wins or loses this final series...the fans...won't riot and torch the city.
Roll on game 5 !

Stanley Cup Shot 11 Times During Chicago Blackhawks Victory Parade
SPORTS NEWS IN BRIEF • Breaking • Sports • Hockey • News • ISSUE 49•26 • Jun 28, 2013
CHICAGO—Over the course of the 45-minute victory parade held Friday morning to celebrate the Chicago Blackhawks’ NHL championship, the Stanley Cup sustained nearly a dozen gunshot wounds, city police officials have confirmed. “Multiple gun-wielding individuals, all appearing to operate independently, fired approximately 25 shots at the trophy, resulting in 11 direct hits,” said Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who confirmed the famous trophy’s injuries may leave many of the names of past champions engraved upon it permanently illegible, including the entire roster of the 1999 Dallas Stars. “We are seeking any information regarding the current whereabouts of the Cup’s assailants, as well as the identities of the 1.3 million revelers facing charges of public intoxication.” Parade coordinators reportedly elected to continue the rally, stating that the crowds of Chicagoans did not seem at all fazed by the gunfire.
