Williams-Sonoma Concedes Victory to Terrorists, Pulls Pressure Cookers From Shelves
Mike Riggs|Apr. 23, 2013 12:35 pm

Williams-SonomaIn what can only be described as a posthumous victory for raging asshole Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Williams-Sonoma, the (absolutely amazing) kitchen-stuff company, has pulled pressure cookers--which the Tsarnaevs built into bombs--from shelves in Massachusetts. Patch reports:

Following the Boston Marathon bombing last Monday in which pressure cookers were used for the explosion, the cookware giant has decided to temporarily stop selling the items in their Massachusetts stores.

"It's a temporary thing out of respect," said Kent, who is the Store Manager of the Williams-Sonoma at the Natick Mall. He referred Patch to corporate for further questions. Williams-Sonomaalso has a local branch at Legacy Place in Dedham.

Pressure cookers will still be available on the Williams-Sonoma website.

What's next, a self-imposed ban on the sale of backwards baseball caps?

What's next, a self-imposed ban on the sale of backwards baseball caps?Oh heck. . . they sell them that way? Anyway, That would be an excellent start (unless you're a Catcher). There's always a glimmer of hope in these things.

The WS "sympathy" move was a regional initiative on their part which went nation-wide within the chain. It'll be business as normal soon enough when Auntie Em shows up wanting a high-quality pressure cooker to fix Uncle Henry's Sunday dinner and they have to send her over to BB&B - retailers hate to have to do that.

I've got a hard enough of a time as it is dealing with the browsing / reading / but not buying PAMFs in the bookstores.

Yes, I'm sure it is mostly about kids doing what kids do: copy what other kids are doing. Don't judge books by their cover. It is what's inside that counts. Yet, still.

It's Holden Caulfield's fault - can't blame GWB for that one.

I was speaking with a chef buddy of mine about the pressure cookers and mentioned I've never used one. He said I need to get one as you can do Osso Buco in like 35 minutes...... I do see a pressure cooker in my future, but I'll refrain from the tactical assault cooker......

I heard that the bombers purchased the pressure cooker(s) at Macy's, not Williams-Sonoma (too expensive!)

The day of the bombing Macy's had them advertised in my local newspaper for $19.99.

I was also told DO NOT purchase a cheap pressure cooker.... I believe this a very good idea.

I stopped cooking with pressure cookers about 20 years ago. Soup in 15 minutes versus 30 minutes for a nice chicken stock hardly seemed worth the clean up. Also, you just have to pop one once and all that time saving is down the drain with 2 hours of ceiling clean up. Did check the Williams Sonoma site -- online order status:

Fissler Vitaquick 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set
Item: 44-517805
Quantity: 1
Price: $290.00 each
This item will be available to ship after April 25, 2013

No note on why.

As to the ball park headgear... an embellishment...

We've got a Fagor 8L pressure cooker. It's one of the few on the market that can safely use oil. This allows me to "broast" a half chicken in 8 to 9 minutes. Its about 25 years old.

Fagor doesn't seem to make it anymore but Magefesa makes an almost identical model. I'm not sure if Magestesa is a subsidiary of Fagor or not.

I can't speak to the quality of the Magefesa, but the price is about what we paid a quarter century ago. ;)

Our's is the photo below.

Upside is that > 25 years old means you might be grandfathered under the high-capacity pressure cooker ban. Prolly, still need to register it with the Feds though. ;)

That's a "class-3" pressure cooker and must be registered with the ATF. :munchin

My pressure cooker..."from my cold dead hands."

If you travel, your pressure cooker must be locked in your trunk, separate from the food...until you reach Arizona !

Let's hope terrorists don't use rice cookers. ;)
