View Full Version : Sometimes it's hard to be President
The President was getting hit hard on a number of conservative sites just 24 hours ago for not planning (or not announced yet) on attending the memorial for the dead in Texas.
Now that it's out that he will attend and may speak he's getting hit by the same folks for being an attention whore.
Either Presidents should do it or they shouldn't. D or R shouldn't matter.
The MSM is kinda' the same way though. When an R does it he's taking away from the effort or was late getting there - when a D does it - it shows he cares.
Thank you for that post, Pete. Although raised in a very Republican family I was taught from from the beginning that the President, regardless of party is the President. He should always be referred to as President Reagan, President Bush, etc. Not Ronnie or "W" or Obama. In the privacy of one's home a person should be able to talk however they feel. Publicly the office must be respected out of respect for our history. I want to smack right in the mouth those in the media who refer to the President as "W" or "Barack" or "Bush" or "Obama". I admit, sometimes I violate my own rule, but I always remember my father's words, "He is the President, Gawd dammit!! Show respect."

So, your Dad didn't mind taking the Lord's name in vain, but got pissed off if somebody didn't say "President"? Sounds a tad incongruous.

Not one bit "incongruous"
Not one bit "incongruous"
I guess you're right, if your Dad was an atheist, or believed in something other than God.
I pray too much to show disrespect, but I don't pray to Obama.
I didn't hear a bunch of BS about "respect" when Bush was POTUS.

No lie.
Code Pink was all the rage, as was "speaking truth to power."

Am I the only one who is surprised the POTUS or FLOTUS haven't been caught personifying themselves as one of the victims?
Where do we draw the line regarding when the POTUS is expected to make an appearance at a memorial service? As an example would we expect him to be at a service for 18 people killed in a natural gas explosion at the corner diner in anywhere USA? The POTUS does not have to be everywhere or anywhere in order for us to draw any conclusion as to whether he cares about the citizens of our country.
It’s the politicizing of events that I do not care for, regardless of which side of the aisle one sits on. You can please some of the people some of the time however you will never please them all. We all have our own definition of overexposure and grandstanding
American Presidents have faced this sort of antipathy since the time of John Adams. What is surprising - or, perhaps, telling - is their continuing to be surprised by it.

"speaking truth to power."IMO, when done correctly, speaking "truth" to power is a nonpartisan activity upon which neither the left nor the right holds a monopoly. Not for nothing did Edward Said position Julien Benda alongside Antonio Gramsci.*

Also, for those who are critical of the expanding federal government, I would ask how a sitting POTUS attending such heart-wrenching events does not condition American citizens to expect an even larger role for .GOV in their everyday lives?

Concur! Thank you for bringing some common sense to this idiocy. Yes, it's a tragedy and my prayers go out to the families affected. That said - the POTUS needs to stay home and do the job we pay him for vs. his continual champaigning. And yes - I am perfectly willing to express my unreserved contempt for the man. Respect for the office is completely seperate from respect for the man; nor does that respect for the office elevate an unworthy occupant.

I'm pretty sure he's Rippling or T-birding. :D

Whatever - it's a party we're paying for. And I don't see anything worth celebrating.
(Sorry, you got me - that was a genuine Fraudian slip! :D)

For the record, I agree with your post, and I've made similar posts in the past. If I was working for the guy, I'd take a bullet for him, no matter whether I agree with his shenanigans.
But, now, he works for me. And he's doing a sorry-assed job.
I want to drink beer with Dusty!
I am sure after a six pack or two he is a hoot to hang with!
