Do You Have a Responsibility to Fight?
Could not find this in a forum search. It ties in with "The Letter" 1000 Green Berets signed. Lotsa thought put into the article and it is written in language most literate Americans should understand.

I think it depends on who you ask. The 1% of America that has sworn to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic need not answer. It's the other 99% of America that need answer this question.
What our letter was about was waking up that 99% that do not realize that this is not about gun control as it is about our rights as written in the Constitution.
The political ultra left wing lunatics such as senator Feinstein have spoken and as polarized as this nation has become I think even the socialists have realized this is not the time to poke the tiger in it's cage.
They have backed down under the current pressure. I think even they realize they came close to a tipping point, a line in the sand that they do not want to cross. They know how divided this nation has become and the potential for violence is very high. All it's going to take is the NYC police to get into a gunfight while taking banned weapons away from citizens and the match will be lit.

Martin Luther king jr. talked about fighting those in power. To poorly paraphrase him, "if your adversaries have a conscience, fight like Gandhi. If they don't, follow Bonhoeffer."
Bonhoeffer was a German pastor before World War II. He had the opportunity to escape the Nazis, but chose to remain with his people (stating that he had no right to help Germany rebuild after the war if he didn't endure the hardships with his people during the war). The Nazis caught him plotting against Hitler's life, imprisoned him, then hung him about 3 weeks before Berlin was liberated.
The question becomes what technique will be most effective? MLK was no fool. His statement was based on his experience.
The Founders of this nation held that we must have a learned, patriotic populace for our republic to continue. I would submit that the most important thing we can do as citizens is work to educate people, especially during election time.
