What type(s) of fifty ammo do you prefer for rifle purposes?

Plinking, matches, or social use?

All of the above.

Does the term "plinking" apply to .50?:D

Absolutely! I would even classify shooting Ambush Master's 2.5 inch mortar as plinking.

Nah, he had me shooting the '60 by round about four YO, and I seem to have come out reasonably well. Fiendin' like hell for my own Class III toys, but reasonably well. :D

Patched - lead round ball with 55 gr BP for match use, 105 gr for deer. Mini ball for rapid fire, if you can call BP rapid. :)

Raufoss for penetration, and the Frog crap (Adrian?, can not remembe the name to save me right now.) for a touch more accurate penetration. Oiled bronze monolythic for the smoke trail, and tracer for the plain fun of it.

Plinking on medium to hard targets, Talon Incendiary (Blue Tip) or Spotter. The Blue Tip is only $1 per round in quantity.

Matches, anything from the AMAX on up through the driving band custom rounds. $3-$10 per round.

Social, Raufoss on materiel targets, any match bullet on soft targets. Raufoss is a very limited availability item for civilians and runs $35 per round or more.

HTH.

Now we're cookin with gas. A friend had some APIT that we shot out of his M2 and a single shot LAR Grizzly that was too cool. I got a few rounds at a gun show, but they are getting way expensive. I would like to find some .50 BMG rounds loaded with spotter tracer projectiles, but haven't seen any in my area. The oiled Bronze sound pretty cool, do you know where one could get such things?

Get the deal on the .50 Incendiary (stay away from the API unless you have a very deep backstop) in 500 round lots from www.ammunitionstore.com or higher prices and smaller quantities from www.ammoman.com

I believe that they also sell the Talon Spotter ammo as well.

You are at CTD, why not use their sources?

Backstop is no problem, it's the Davis Mountains in West Texas. As for our sources, frankly they aren't interested in tacking any small orders on to the normal quantities we order in so I am quite simply hosed on any type of good deal in that department.
