View Full Version : Dr. Ben Carson: Somebody Has to Stand Up to the Bullies
I love this guy:

DR. BENJAMIN CARSON: There are a group of people who would like to silence everybody and have everybody go along to get along, but that's not going to be very helpful for us in the long run, in terms of solving our problems. And somebody has to be courageous enough to actually stand up to, you know, the bullies.
DR. CARSON: One of the things I also said during the speech is there will be some people who will say, 'but you’re a doctor and you’re a surgeon, you should be sticking to that.' And I mentioned the fact that five physicians signed the Declaration of Independence and were involved in the framing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and several other things.
There’s absolutely no reason at all that physicians, scientists, shouldn’t be involved in things that affect all of us. We’re people who've learned how to make decisions based on facts, empirical data, rather than on ideology, and one of the geniuses, one of the real things that made us a great nation, is that we brought people from all backgrounds into the legislative process. So that all of us would be able to place our interests there and we've gone significantly away from that.
And no one goes up to a lawyer and says why are you getting involved in this, that and the other thing. I don't see why they would say it to a physician, who has more education than anyone else in society.
DR. CARSON: There’s no question that [President Obama] has advocated, you know, basically a policy of tax the rich. And I have advocated a policy that comes from the Bible, which is a very fair policy of proportional taxation. If it was good enough for God, why wouldn’t it be good enough for us? The minute you deviate away from that, you begin to get into all kinds of biases. And one could legitimately make the argument that the rich pays too many taxes. The top 1% pays 37% of the taxes, the top 5% [pays] 59% of the taxes, but they don't make that much of the income. One could make that argument.
NEIL CAVUTO, FOX NEWS: Obviously, you got a quite a round of applause there. Some in that room and elsewhere since that video has gone viral have said you should run for president. What do you think of that?
DR. BENJAMIN CARSON: Well, actually I've had people tell me that for many years now. If I had a nickel for everybody who told me that, I could finance my campaign.
CAVUTO: You and me both. You and me both. Your reaction to that is what? I mean, you don't think that's for you? You want to be a doctor and help people, what?
DR. CARSON: I've always said if God grabs me by the collar and sticks me in that arena, that's the only way that I'll do it. But, no, I'm actually going to retire in June from surgery. I will still teach, I will still be involved, but I'm going to retire from surgery, so it does open up a lot of possibilities for me. I'm very focused on education and getting the populace back to where it used to be -- like back in 1831 when Alexis de Tocqueville was so impressed -- because an uneducated populace will fall for anything.
And if you and you talk to most people, they mean well but they don't have much of a breadth of education, of knowledge, of understanding of what the real issues are and, therefore, they listen to pundits on television who tell them what they're supposed to think and they keep repeating that and pretty soon they say, 'Oh, well that must be true.' IMO think we need more highly educated professionals of all backgrounds in the legislature, the lawyers have got us in a lot of trouble. Dr. Carson was well spoken and made great points. Thank you for Sharing Dusty :). The Left, for a group of people that claim tolerance are the most intolerant people I have ever dealt with. However, extremism on either side is not helpful but divisive. I do not believe we should all meet in the middle either, lean right and show tolerance to those that would return it and ignore stupidity. I went to college to be a social worker specifically to help veterans with PTSD, Drug and alcohol addiction, and the like. I believe as veterans we have to be the example not the problem. We own it to those who didn't make it back to live well, and teach our children what our country stands for. One of my professors reported me to the college threat assessment board where I had to defend my right to get the education I was after because in his words I was an abomination to his profession Because I was a Conservative and more-so because I was a combat veteran that believed in what I fought for. I actually had to go before a board on his complaint and was confronted with the very first statement to me, "If we allow you to stay in school here you will have to see a councilor twice a week" and I interrupted with wait a minute, what have I been accused of doing? I was told I was heard making death threats against my wife and children, and people at school. I asked for someone to present me with any evidence of that, as no such thing would ever come from my mouth. and once the board learned that it was my professor who thought I might be a threat because of my combat experience and that I had actually said nothing threatening to anyone, and even said that if there were a gunmen on campus I would be an asset because I would go to the gun fire instead of away from it and use what I know to die or stop it. I was fully reinstated as a student, apologized to, and thanked for my service. But the person who started the whole dam thing remained and still remains in the same position without any repercussions for what he had done to me. Yes I was up-set about the situation but I did not do the ex LAPD thing over it. But I could not finish my degree at the University of Findlay because he would not except my work so I could not complete his classes. He even ended my internship with a local social outreach program. I ended up needing to check into the VA hospital so they could work on my again, they sent me to the Cleveland clinic because the VA did not have Neurosurgeons that could do it. I never went back to school , a semester and a half away from my BA. Back to the point we do need a mixture of educated people in Government but we also need to recognize that going along to get along does not work when dealing with Libtards (if my use of that word offends anyone let me know I will not use it if so) they have no tolerance for anyone that does not agree with them period.
Paragraphs... please!
"Libtard" does offend me, but I am in a minority here on that subject. (It offends me as would "Right-wing Nut Job" or "ConsevativeCrazy"... I am an equal-opportunity offendee.)

His book is pretty good too. I read it not long after its release.

I love this guy:
I've admired him for years. If anyone had an excuse to be just another deadbeat on welfare, it would be him, the "dumbest guy in class." But he had a mom with some backbone and belief in her sons. (His brother is accomplished as well.) He worked hard to be where he's at now.
I read his story to my sons and it left an impression on them. They sometimes say when discouraged with school, "Well, if Ben Carson could do it, so can I." :D
I don't have many heroes, but he's on the list.
It sounds like he isn't rejecting the idea of politics outright. Will be interesting to see where he goes after retirement as a surgeon.

He is a brilliant but humble kind of guy...I like him greatly
Looks like the bully is pushing back at Ben Carson, MD?
After speaking out at the National Prayer Breakfast against Obama's policies last February, Dr. Carson was targeted by the IRS for an audit. Not just one, but multiple. Coincidence? Link. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63FgYgBjQ1Y&feature=youtu.be)
(I wish Bill O'Reilly would have shut up and let Dr. Carson speak.)

What is his stance on the second amendment? I've heard he is against it.

He was stating a sad historic fact, not endorsing it. That's how I read it at least. The sick bastard that did that horrible thing is dead.

That is how I took it, as well, and am agreed on the POS alternate location now.
And I do love Mr. Carson. He is an eloquent speaker that also seems to back up what he says with his actions, unlike POTUS.
What is his stance on the second amendment? I've heard he is against it.
Appearing on Glenn Beck‘s radio show this past week, Dr. Benjamin Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn’t be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities. Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”
“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”
So he is practical more than political...
He's an anomaly, but not running for POTUS, so... Whatevar.

It seems to me that living in a city would require owning a semi automatic with high capacity magazines. How else will you defend yourself from the mobs when food riots etc... start?

Or if a band of thugs on motorcycles terrorizes you and your family and demonstrates intent to cause you harm. Without an adequate means to defend yourself you might just get pulled from your vehicle, cut, stomped, beaten and left for dead. All in front of your wife and two-year old daughter.

...then get blamed by the media as the cause of the crime.

My guess is well aimed shots might be the better play for non QPs.
1. keep the rest of the gang re-thinking the situation as their "brethren" keep dropping and
2. innocent people in the area clear of your fire.
I remember a lesson from a MACVSOG era QP about the accuracy of an M60 sprayed into a line of "targets" versus each shot spaced. More dropped in the second example with far less ammunition expended.
We may all have equal rights, but not equal capability. :D

Ok, you confused me. Are you implying that the average Joe on the street is incapable of executing aimed shots with a semi-auto firearm?

yes
yes
What is an Average Joe (or Joe-et)?
I guess that would depend on where you live.
In Fayetteville chances are that old fart holding you up at the door because he's having a hard time opening it while staying stable and holding onto his cane was probably a kick ass First Sergeant in the Korean War.

On Monday at The New York Meeting, Dr. Ben Carson said he does not believe in gun registration because America's massive debt could transform the nation into a third-world country in which martial law may be imposed.
Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who has been getting buzz in conservative circles, said that he changed his mind and was against gun registration because of the "sinister internal forces" that could surface in that scenario. He said he "used to think they needed to be registered, but if you register them they just come and find you and take your guns."
"If we were only concerned about external forces, then we would be okay," he said. "But there are some pretty sinister internal forces."
He then asked the audience to think about a scenario in which countries around the world drop the dollar as their reserve currency.
"We have a national debt that is so high, and it's being raised even higher," he said. "Now, the only reason we can do that is because we are the reserve currency for the world. What if that changes?"
Carson mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to "remove America as our reserve currency" if America imposed economic sanctions.
"What if other people come along?" Carson asked, saying China and the U.N have mentioned doing the same. "We would become a third-world nation overnight. Occupy Wall Street would be a walk in the park. And all of a sudden, the things that would be going on in this country which would necessitate marital law... all this could happen very rapidly. We should be really concerned."
The Wall Street Journal's James Taranto mentioned previous comments of Carson's in which he gave an urban/rural distinction on gun rights. Carson had suggested that he would not want a crazy person to have a chance to get a semiautomatic rifle in high-density urban areas, while not having a problem with someone living alone in the countryside with those guns.
"Do you think the Supreme Court was wrong when it found that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep arms in Washington, D.C., and Chicago?" Taranto asked.
"I truly believe in Second Amendment rights," Carson said. "I would never advocate anything to interfere with Second Amendment rights; however, I do think we have to be intelligent."
He said his point in saying that was to address situations--like in Detroit--where people with AK-47s are mowing people down.
"We need to engage in a discussion about, 'Is there something we can do?'" Carson said before saying that "we have to keep in mind that law-abiding American citizens absolutely should have gun rights."

I can help with that issue Dr., you simply hunt them down and kill them.
