So there I was, a hairs breadth from getting a shipping date and training my butt off (ok, so I could have been doing better, but thats neither here nor there now) and the recruiter calls me... Apparently they have closed the 18X program option to prior service members... Anyone else know about this? I am more than determined to get in, but beyond what little I have in my corner (pretty much nothing), I cant think of where to start now... If this is false or if there is another way, I would like to know... Im pretty pissed off
You scared me for a moment with the title of the thread. I'm non prior service getting said contract right now. I thought I had missed my chance. I'm not a recruiter, so I can't give you the best information, but from what I have read, that does seem to be the case. Sorry mate. Definitely don't take my word for that though. Good luck.
I have no Idea if this is true or not but if it is go 11B airborne option and apply for SF after your in like most of us did. Just a thought.....

18X is a special mission (USAREC) and they're always looking for candidates that are MORALLY and PHYSICALLY qualified to process. Prior service personnel have limited options for various reasons and it's hard to say what the current options are due to requirements that are coming from Accession Command.
If its currently closed for Prior Service (which I find hard to believe) you can go 11X with or without an Airborne option and then go to SFAS. If selected you will go to Airborne School en route if I'm not mistaken.
Your recruiter should be trying to get you that 18X enlistment option, even though it's a little more work for him.

You need to talk to a SF Recruiter. Do some searching.

Snaquebite: I will talk to them tomorrow, I remember the ones at Bragg being a big help a while ago. Thank you.
That guy and SFBHT: I currently have NO enlistment options open to me ATM. I have asked for 11X. They don't want guys to go back active because they want to bolster reserve and guard components' knowledge base (that's how I understand the situation, anyway) AND they are cutting DOD budgets, so prior service guys have no/ few options. My recruiter is trying to get me the option... or any option...

Roger, that should have been your 1st COA...Now go do pushups. :D
If you type SORB into the SEARCH function, you will find many links in these forums to the Spec Ops Rctng Bn at Fort Bragg, NC - they are the ones who can definitively answer your question(s).
I recommend you try it for yourselves...just for giggles.

Question answered - 18X is currently closed to prior service.
