View Full Version : Taurus taking over Remington?
Brazilian gunmaker Forjas Taurus SA is emerging as a likely bidder for Freedom Group Inc. as analysts bet that proposed U.S. gun controls will fail to deter demand in the world’s largest consumer firearms market.

It looks like Taurus of Brazil is shaping up to be the likely buyer for the Freedom Group. If Taurus wins the bid, that means a good chunk of formerly American gun companies will become foreign owned. Here's a list of companies that Taurus would own:
Remington
Remington Military
Bushmaster
Remington LE
Marlin
H&R
Dakota Arms
Tapco
DPMS
Parker Gunmakers
Barnes Bullets
Advanced Armament Corp.
Para USA
Remington PMPD
Mountain Khakis
Some of those companies I have never heard of but Remington, Marlin, & Bushmaster...those are some pretty iconic names in the history of guns and this county. I like Taurus but I'm not sure I like them this much!

I think they would be hard pressed to make them any worse than Cerebus ( (spelling?) already has.
All of the recent Bushmaster/DPMS DCM guns I have looked at left a lot to be desired. The DPMS sights were mushy; I think they got the 1/4 minute sights by using a 1/2 minute thread pitch and then doubling the detents in the elevation knob.

Remington bought up most of the others under Freedom Arms.
Now FA/Cerebus wants to get out of the gun business.
Kind of funny, since this is shaping up to be a record year for the gun business.
Check and see how much of the ammo market ATK holds.

Wow.........sounds like a bigger version of what Beretta's been doing in Europe in recent years....much bigger.
Fortunately Savage is not on that list.

You might be surprised with Private Equity and Venture Capital investors.
It may seem counterintuitive on the surface, and irrelevant to the industry they invest in, they often try to sell/divest INTO a sales spike that they believe is not sustainable.
Non public businesses can be quite illiquid investments(bar free cash flow and/or ability to borrow against the balance sheet) so it makes sense to try to sell as business is growing, rather than slowing.
Often regarded as the smart money leaving the game of musical chairs.
A great example would be another PE outfit Texas Pacific buying and eventually selling Ducati.
Going public when it was fashionable, then divesting when the industry peaked.
IF they are any good at what they do, it may not be a good sign for the industry.
