The Defense Department is extending housing allowances by one year for DOD civilians employed overseas by the U.S. European Command who were mistakenly granted the benefit, a Pentagon official said here yesterday.

Wonder is that "benefit" will be deducted in future pay checks, as we had done to our Army pay checks.
Better yet, will the IRS view this as additional income and want the tax revenue? :eek:
LQA was considered non-taxable income.
One big issue I observed overseas (multiple times), new employees were hired and "granted" LQA on their initial offer letter only to find out a year or more later a mistake was made and those payments needed to be returned.
While this was no fault of the employee or even the CPAC clerk who initially filed the paperwork…the grand government bureaucracy full effect…it is the lowly govt worker that will bear the brunt of the hardship and blame.
