Earlier today on ARFCOM there a few unsubstantial reports of a 'New' Medical Excise Tax being included on the receipts of Cabelas customers.

Image of a receipt from Texas reported on FB is attached.

I wonder if this is Cabelas way of telling everyone they are TAXING you for your FREE obamacare??

If so, I applaud Cabelas for stepping up to the plate.. :lifter

They can't stop it,, but they can advertize that FREE is coming out of YOUR pocket...

If true I suspect a simple but monumental screwup on Cabela's accounting leviathan. Also, tax is inflicted on the mfr/importer per device, forms to file, yadayada, not on an entire retail purchase which is what the 2.3% against the before-tax total reflects in the exhibit submitted in evidence.
Ahem.

Did I miss the CDC's report that Butler Creek 10/22 SS folding stocks are considered as prosthetics?

If true I suspect a simple but monumental screwup on Cabela's accounting leviathan.Received after running the email traps to inquire with Cabela's. The following, received via their nice customer service person this afternoon:
The Medical Excise tax that showed up on your receipt was a one time glitch that happened on some retail store purchases from 1/1/2013. If you respond with the following information off of your receipt, I will have a credit refund issued back to you for this glitch.
There is then some information in their email they'll ask for regarding the specific transaction so they can provide a credit back.

I did advise them that this has been running the net and they may want to put a flash or something on the very front page of their website homepage.

Glitch or test run....... I'm not paranoid.:DLOL. Yeah, I was being pretty charitable but that's what happened.

Going down the rabbit hole though does make you wonder, what would cause such a glitch to even be present or possible in their system? Are they using some other software package and forgot to remove the 'glitch'? Cabela's way of a (not funny for many) practical joke to show the cost of "free stuff"? 'Tis a puzzlement.

Anyway, the post above was the party line.
What Richard says.

According to Snopes this has been determined to be a glitch in the Cabelas system and you can contact Cabelas for a refund if you were charged this fee.
