Yet another invention for the Chinese 'We need to steal that idea!' list.

The U.S. military is backing the development of camouflage fabrics that could one day make their soldiers completely invisible, it has been claimed.

The so-called 'Quantum Stealth' camouflage material is said to render its wearers completely invisible by bending light waves around them.

Its makers claim the material, which is in effect similar to the invisibility cloak worn by Harry Potter, can even fool night-vision goggles.

Is this the next thing at Cabela's... or Project Runway?

Banjo: "How happy are they?"

I read in an article that this stuff is supposed to defeat thermals as well. I dunno how accurate that is, but to me it means that it is going to be hot as hell to wear. Seems like a great invention, but i don't think uniforms will be made from it in the near future. Some of the other tech ideas i have heard over the past few years still haven't made it from the drawing board to production yet that i know of. However, i would rather my tax dollars are spent for this kind of R&D than studying the impact of global warming on the sex lives of fruit flies in southern california.

What is concerning is the Chinese might beat us to having the tech practical before we do...

lol Reminds me of the cartoon pics they showed us in Basic of those Infantryman Transport doodads that looked like flying Segways. Just a few years away, they promised.

I'll believe it when I don't see it.

Would this reduce friendly fire incidents?

Probably would encourage "shot at what moves"..

I caught a couple minutes of one of the survivor shows. The family had built a tree stand and used a reflective Mylar exterior board material. Inside it looked like plywood.

I was very surprised when the camera showed the outside, the reflective material reflected the surrounding foliage. For a dime store solution it worked well..

Yeah, except that the support structure and flooring was untreated.

"Hmm. There are several 4x4s just growing out of the ground here. I wonder why?"
