I know that this has been brought up on another - related - topic. But, I felt it deserved its own thread.
More from our "QUIET PROFESSIONAL" brothers in the Naval Special Warfare community. To be fair, the command seems to be serious about cleaning house, however.

"WASHINGTON – Seven members of the secretive Navy SEAL Team 6, including one involved in the Usama bin Laden raid, have been punished for allegedly disclosing classified information, two senior military officials tell Fox News. They were accused for their role working as paid consultants for a video game company producing "Medal of Honor: Warfighter." The official says four other SEALs are under investigation for similar alleged disclosures, but are still on active duty. The seven received what the military calls "nonjudicial" punishment on Wednesday. They were given letters of reprimand, which is often, but not exclusively, a career ending punishment -- it depends on the commander's discretion and whether or not he chooses to make it part of the offender's permanent service record. In addition, the seven SEALs were made to forfeit half their pay for two months..."

...let them have their Nintendo money. It was OK to let them play roles in a movie - hell it was encouraged and defended. It was OK to parade them in front of the media on the first place and nobody had any problems with that. Maybe the video game will have a function that lets you build a wide range of characters to assault that famous compound in Abbottabad!!!! Look at the big picture, we could use this video game to desensitize the force to gender integration in SOF as well by giving the option to let 'gamers' play as a female commando, or CST !!!
We could even use it to help provide broader acceptance of the ending of DADT by having a playable gender neutral character named "Chaz"
Its just a video game, what harm can it be?

The leadership allowed this "fame seeking" (ostensively, for recruiting purposes) to become part of their professional culture and NOW they are against it as the see what it results in.

Funny you mentioned that because the final mission in the game is a joint CAG-ST6 raid against the main villain of the game, whose compound is in Pakistan.
The game has received poor ratings from critics.I think the role of SEALs assisting was quite clear when the trailers of the game were released.
Now I have a question, are SF/SOF personnel allowed to have any professional engagements in the civvie world while they are Active Duty?Because if they aren't then weren't these soldiers afraid of the consequences if they'd get caught?

Seven SEALs to lose pay over classified leaks
WASHINGTON (WAVY/AP) - Seven Navy SEALs will lose a month of pay for disclosing classified material in connection to a video game, according to officials.
LTC Jim Gregory with the Office of the Secretary of Defense told WAVY.com two senior chief special operators and five chief special operators received punishments of a punitive letter of reprimand and forfeiture of ½ moth’s pay for two months. The punishments were handed down during a non-judicial punishment hearing Wednesday.
The SEALs were charged with violation of Article 92: Orders violation, misuse of command gear and violation of Article 92: Dereliction of duty, disclosure of classified material for the role with a Medal of Honor video game.
Specifics of their acts were not disclosed by Gregory.
The deputy commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, issued a statement acknowledging that nonjudicial punishments had been handed out for misconduct, but he did not offer any details.
"We do not tolerate deviations from the policies that govern who we are and what we do as sailors in the United States Navy," Bonelli said. He alluded to the importance of honoring nondisclosure agreements that SEALs sign.

Look at the teaser youtube videos. It appears that they jocked-up in full kit with weapons and accessories and then did apparatus and tactics walk-throughs so they could be digitized and animated.
What the EA guys didn't get off recruiting videos they got straight off the first team.
Nothing like giving out the playbook for a few bucks and entertainment purposes.
The difference between a recruiting video (Act of Valor of whatever else) is the guys and the unit itself could cull the most sensitive shit off the screen. Nobody cares that you can see all the nylon and guns at the SHOT Show, a gun magazine, catalogs, or an airsofters' weekend -- it's the fact that guys are giving away the HOW and WHY for a little rock star exposure.

Kind of hard for a command who's pimped the SEAL's since their inception and run to the camera's quicker than John "Live-Shot" Kerry to suddenly reign them in when the heat gets a little too intense. I feel for the operators, but this is the culture big blue created and encouraged.
Well I guess Seven members of the secretive Navy SEAL Team 6 will be retiring or seperating from the Navy next year if not sooner. You know with those cut backs coming and all that!!

With respect, the "how" I saw in the trailers was already well in the public domain, especially door breaching TTPs. Act of Valor had as much in it.

The second: I'm not sure how much you want to know, but it's a future decision.

Even good blogs have bad days. I read the reviews of the movie, and that is what they were... reviews of a movie.
I don't know "Uncle Jimbo" - but he is apparently SF and I'll respect HIS opinion as a BTDT.
I don't know Jonn Lilyea personally, but he is a Brother Moatengator, so I'll respect HIS opinion, too.
My personal view is that sometimes veterans and military types let their desire for a 'pro-military' movie outweigh their better judgement about whether this kind of shit should be shown in public.
As for you, young man, you are a NBTNDT, and as such, your opinions don't amount to a bucket of warm spittle... and that is the point I've been trying to get across to you - obviously not successfully - in this and other threads.
Your lack of SA (as characterized by this statement: "I know this isn't a popular position here...") will eventually get you booted from here. Someone with experience can voice unopular statements and engender debate, because they know whereof they speak. You do not.
I'm not threatening, because I don't have the power to ban you (or you'd have been gone about three weeks ago). I'm just warning you about what eventually happens to those who stray out of their lanes. With NO military experience, except what you've read on "millblogs", your NG brother has told you, or you've seen in movies, your lane is a verrrry narrow one.

Then perhaps you should leave our house and go lurk in an area where you are agreed with more often. You have no idea what a standard is, let alone the standards of this forum. Look down, and you will see the thin ice your standing on.
