Much of New York City is submerged in water and out of electricity, but the city is still planning to host 50,000 runners for the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday. Forget the 26.2 miles — runners’ greatest hurdle could be making it to the starting line amid closed airports, offline subways, flooded streets and massive power outages.
On Tuesday evening, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the race would continue as scheduled as officials evaluated storm damage from superstorm Sandy.
Ok let me get this.. The Nets' regular-season debut opener in Brooklyn is off; will have to wait. But the New York City Marathon, however, is good to go?? WTH
With mass transportation crippled, Frustration in local with city ALREADY (only took 2-days), and the police and fire stations in the city and the five boroughs are pushed to their limited to help the city in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy. In the great mind of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg asked the NBA to postpone Thursday's night opener between the Knicks and Nets at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, but he is keeping the New York City Marathon for Sunday. In a city that was under water for 36 plus hours and most of its subway, 44+ miles of it are still under water. Bridges into New York City are open, but police enforced a carpooling rule and peered into windows to make sure each car had at least three people, but we have the police to take care of a Marathon too.
This just doesn't make any since to me.

Ok let me get this straight . . .
This just doesn't make any since to me.riding a bus in a marathon is sorta cheating. The Mayor was probably doin the Nets a favor . . . ;) Seriously though that's a lot of people congregated at the Center where as the Marathon route spreads them out pretty good. Fans? (aside from having a friend or loved one running who watches Marathons? Like slo-mo NASCAR from a lousy seat). Marathons leave lots of trash behind, probably won't even be noticed this time.
Aren't you just mad because Hiz Zonor is sayin nice stuff about the Prez? Try this:
The "O" said we should cancel the New York Marathon, the greatest marathon in the world. We're New Yorkers not a bunch of pansy Dims and Libtards! F-off, Mr gonna-be-gone-next-week. Mitt Promised to pay for it.
See? Feels better already, doesn't it. Glad to help.

Interesting... A featured item on the MSNBC site (with Benghazi stuff relegated to the little hit list). What a shock. I catch their website annually 'cause I've forgotten about all the streaming vulnerability notice pop-ups they cause.
If you can host a footrace you can host an election.
Let's get on with it.
Like slo-mo NASCAR from a lousy seat.
lol The fans would have to be drunk...wait...:D

Dang it's hard to not like a guy who always sees the bright side.
Cancelled.
Yeah after they "Drove" the route.. little to much debris and the start of the race in Staten island; which Staten Island was devastated beyond recognition by superstorm Sandy, seemed to have added to the decision. Let alone locals getting a bet pissed off that 1000Kwa Generators were being delivered for media and race sponsors ING tents and not to help locals. I guess ING's change to "Race to Recover" Relief Effort didn't go over to well local New Yokers..go figure.
