View Full Version : Sign Count - Minority Majority Neighborhood
Political sign count in a Minority Majority Neighborhood.
Went for my 4.2 mile walk through my Minority Majority Neighborhood this morning and counted the political signs in people's yards. Overall, way down from 2008.
A few homes - mostly corner lots - had one on each side. Only given 1 in the count.
15 Obama/Biden signs & 9 Romney/Ryan signs. My hard core R neighbor had every R sign under the sun in his yard and other than his R/R sign I'll drop him off the next part.
No signs for Gov or L Gov from either party. No signs for the D in NC 43 but 7 signs for the R. 4 were in R/R yards and 3 were stand alone signs. One R/R sticker on a truck but no sign in the yard.
So "declared" homes stand at 15 for Obama/Biden and 13 Romney/Ryan (9+3+1). Not bad. My R signs go up this afternoon.
What does your walk look like?
What I see on my daily drives is they are:
Those that do have signs, there is about a 50/50 split on signs, they are in clusters, if there are 3 Obama signs there are 3 Romney signs.
Most of the yards however are bare of any political signs of any kind.
Romney yard signs have only been available in Denver this past week. The Colo GOP is probably the most incompetent in the country. In my small circle, the sign count has doubled - 2 Romney and 1 Obama. Throughout the neighborhood there is a smattering of signs - most being for state reps/sen and initiatives. No zealots (more than 4 signs). Much more subdued than 2008 where almost 30% of the houses had signs (evenly divided).

First let me start by saying it is a beautiful fall morning... crisp and sun shining. The walking course here is a little over 2.5 miles around a small lake in our subdivision. I live in a state that is traditionally red but went blue last year. As I had indicated previously, the grass-root initiative by the Obama campaign in 2008 was impressive.
As of this morning, the majority of homes have zero signs which is a big change from 2008. I spied one (1) Obama sign. I recall around 5 or 6 Romney/Ryan signs. Fewer at the state level but of those I did see, republican candidates won the count.
Not a big number of signs overall for either candidate, but what I have noticed more of are the Women for Romney bumper stickers. Out here that is huge. Especially here in the liberal bastion that is the west side of Los Angeles. I know Obama will win California, but I don't feel like it will be as big a landslide as 4 years ago.
Driving around out here in the countryside in NorCal where the ranch is located, all I've seen are signs for Sheriff and School Board elections.

In high school and the first two years of college, my son worked for a small (2-3 employees) poli-sign printing shop in Gardena, CA. His former boss has the contract to print ALL of the Romney/Ryan lawn signs for California. I guess that shows what they think their chances are there.
Here, in SE AZ, you have to go to Bisbee to find an Obama sign.

Romney/Ryan signs have a ten to one lead in my area as of this morning. The only reports of signs being taken or vandalized, have been Romney/Ryan & Allen signs.

Eight to one RR signs here. Quite a few for McCrory, the Rep Gubernatorial candidate as well.
I went to early voting yesterday afternoon, stood in line for 30 minutes, I would say the crowd was 75% white and 25% black.
IIRC, there are four early voting sites in this part of the county for 30,000 residents.
The election official working the door said that several times, the line was over an hour long. He told me that in the three days it was open, they had more than 500 voters per day. Must be true because my number was 1501.
The only issue I saw was a drive-up voter (older black woman) chewing the election official's ass because he offered her an "I Voted" sticker, and she wanted one with Obama on it. He tried to explain to her that the election officials and polling places were non-partisan, but I think the concept went over her head.

Same here in IL. Just did my walk and saw 4 signs in 4.5 miles. All for the local judge.
I have seen more RR signs, very few Obama signs and I think yard signage is up from the last election. There are many signs for the local elections as well.
I early voted this morning, there was a line out the door...easily a 1 hour wait. The volunteers said it has been very busy since early voting began. I live in a predominately republican area.

I was stuck in St. Louis County this week (fairly predominate GOP population-St.Louis City is totally Dem). Saw probably 70% Romney signs. On my 4-hour drive home, probably 90% Romney. Interestingly, the number of Todd Akin Senate signs was about the same percentage.
About a month ago, I called Romney's Springfield, Mo headquarters, looking for a 4'X8' signs to put next to a major highway. The guy there said that there were no large Romney signs in the entire state. Seems Obama's campaign figured Missouri was a lost cause, so they pulled out of Missouri, so Romney's campaign did the same. So, all we can get here is yard signs.
Talked to a good friend of mine today, who is a serious politician. He opined that he thought Romney would win 300 electoral votes. At first I thought this was excessive, but this guy knows what he is talking about.
FYI: The governor of Missouri is already putting out feelers for a presidential run in 4 years. He is kind of an old-style (moderate?) democrat. He, like all of the other democrats in Missouri, have avoided Obama like the plague. More to follow.
A quick census of a nearby neighborhood revealed 6 front yard signs for RR and zero signs for Zero.
Oh, and one McCain-Palin bumper sticker. :D

Spray WD-40 on it and wait a half hour or so. It will peel right off. ;)

I've been volunteering my help here in Northern Virginia to the Romney campaign, and on Saturday I stopped by to pick up 50 signs to place in the median strips as has been done in every campaign in the past. They told me my county passed a law in September that makes it illegal to post those signs on public property anymore. So almost none are seen here in my county.

Here in the dark-blue "lock" State for zero I've noted that the frenzy of 4 years ago is gone. Most signage focuses upon local and Congressional races along with several significant ballot questions. Three O-and-Joe signs to every one RR sign. Not surprising. The local Republican party has been very active this cycle. Lots of events (social and otherwise).

Away from the bastion of 2 big metro areas here, pretty red. Cranberry growers have the giant versions of all in a row on the corner pieces of their property along the highways. Given how long it takes to make one of those operations pay they didn't take kindly to "you didn't build that."
Quite a few yards & big corner lots (evil landed gentry) with multiple signs, all (R). 2 big battles are legislative, one for congress with a retired base CO here (R) - who went on for awhile to standup the state's veteran's affairs department - trying to unseat chameleon-like local pandering (D) who's become entrenched like a poorly removed tick.
The other race for a Senate seat is hoping that former-Gov and HHS Sec'y Thompson swats down Tammy Baldwin, Spendress Extraordinaire of Your Money. Dims have poured boatloads to her because of the potential Senate dynamic.
Yesterday I went up to the EOC and saw parked a nice shiny black Infiniti G37 Coupe, pristine aerodynamics except for the big O sticker right in the middle of the backglass. Someone with that little taste deserves to be disappointed.

They should be ashamed to own such a fine automobile, sell that car and donate the proceeds to the 99%....

Obama halloween masks are out-selling Romney.
In most of the past pre-election Halloweens it has been accurate determining who gets the treat and who gets tricked. Sorry, You heard it here, first.

In South Tampa about 8-RR to 1-OB. 2008 it was heavy Obama...I didn't even try to count that year. Just held my head in my hands.
My Neighborhood is 5-RR to 0-OB No other signs at all. I've seen only a few OB signs in my county. Tons of RR.
I hope the East side of the I-4 corridor is feeling the same.

I've already reported the counts in my neighborhood.
I work in the research triangle located near a major university. I noticed tonight when driving home that the few signs I spied (6) they were Obama/Biden. Not even one for the good guys...

Figures. Candy's free.
The tradition of trick or treating goes back to olden times when hunger and famine were common. All Hollows Eve preceded the Roman Catholic feast of All Souls and that of All Saints. These are traditional times to remember and pray for the dead.
People (presumably hungry people) would go door to door offering to say prayers for the departed from those homes. Obviously, the goal was the quantity of the prayers not the quality. Food was offered as payment or in thanks.
Dusty, nothing's free candy sales topped $2,400,000,000 (2.4 Billion). Did you dress up as a liberal demon? Now THAT'S scary!

Back in Far North Dallas as the movers pack and load - around here I've only seen one Obama-Biden sign, a few Romney-Ryan signs, and mostly signs for the Republican State Senate candidate - Stefani Carter, a black Harvard educated lawyer.
We'll be heading West on Sunday - I'll be interested to see what's along the way.

Some just want a handout. Some take initiative and make their own....
Funny how that works.
