View Full Version : Expecting a POTUS Retaliation To Distract From Benghazi

Does anyone else here have the gut feeling I do that the President will undertake some sort of military operation in the Middle East, regardless of how small, as a distraction to the current spiral he's in with Benghazi?

This President is so unapologetically political - IMO at least - whether it's use of the military or manipulating the economic numbers (last Thursday the BLS failed to count California in the weekly jobless claims and the drop to 7.8% the week before is still being questioned) and to me it would be very much consistent for his political team to plan.

For example, when all the whispering during his State of the Union this year occurred- which turned out to be the special forces rescue of Somalia aid workers - I couldn't help but not trust the timing of it. Or the way it was coyly played. Just as I believe his timeline for Afghanistan was a result of political planning, not solid military planning.

Can't help but cynically anticipate this as the October surprise for his campaign. The Benghazi story is really picking up steam this week and I think they are desperate with a capital D.

And sorry about the mispelling in the title. I don't think there's a way to edit it.

The last four years has been like the movie "Wag the Dog"
...why should the next three weeks be any different.

Life often imitates art.

Retaliate against who and how? There is no easy RED FLAG target range there anymore like in RRs time. I view it as more an internal DOS FUBAR of a situation which was criminally mismanaged in a recognizably unstable environment.

Richard - they'll be an intel "leak" purporting to be "actionable intelligence" and we'll launch a few JDAMS into the desert and claim Hasni Iwannabombusall has met "justice". Details will be few until (wait for it...wait for it....): AFTER THE ELECTION.

"Barrack Hussein Obama (Blessed be his name) hmmmmm...hmmmmm..hhhhmmmmm."

There is still plenty of time for dirty tricks. A 'pre-debate' bombing of an empty piece of sand in Libya would be so lame and transparent.

...this is the same guy who has had his opponents sued-off of the ticket in order to win. He has an October surprise up his sleeve of epic proportions, he just hasn't used it yet. He has to drop it closer to election day so it is fresh in everyone's mind at the polling stations.

I cannot be convinced that the current administration is not using a scorched earth approach to winning another term. The current POTUS will not go down alone; he will sink the life rafts and drown us all or he will win another term.

...just my two cents. Maybe I have misread this man and his personality.

Too late for a distraction, and I cannot believe that there is anything he can do to change anyone's mind in regards to which lever they pull come election day. His goose is cooked. He is not in Illinois anymore he's on the big stage.

Billy, I pray that you're wrong, but I fear you're right.
I'm of the same mindset.
Watching, waiting.

In my estimation the only October surprise that could happen at this point is an attack against Iran. Don't think that is going to happen.

I am not saying I put it past the current administration to do "something" but this close to the election, it will have to have global implications for it to mean anything. Just my .02 worth.

Early voting has already started. That precludes a politically motivated 'October Surprise' in my book. The only things left would be surprise perpetrated by another country or a suspended or fraudulent election.

MOO.
