Just got a little mailer from DoA US Army Installation Management Command here at Ft Bragg.

Seems the ID card facility has gone to an "appointment only system" due to sometimes long waits for cards.

Been up there a few times for me, the wife and kids. Just depended on the time you went. Sometimes it was packed and sometimes not.

You can call, go to the web site or use one on the kiosks in the lobby of the Soldier Support Center.

Going to be a lot of POed people until the word gets around.

The ID Card facility in SA has always been unbelievably long waits. I have used the new appointment system three times (me and my wife and kids). Never waited more than one minute from the time I got my number to the time my name was called. Had to wait one month for the appointment though.

This is a great method to meet one's performance metrics if the customer-service goal is to manage a chiclet on a PPT slide.

Several years ago, I took my son to get his I.D. card renewed at the Fort Bragg facility. We waited a LONG time. We sat in the waiting room for such an inordinate amount of time that he eventually asked “why is this taking so long?” I am a veteran of sitting and waiting for government employees to do their job, but I needed to tell David why we had to wait. “I.D. cards are made of plastic. Do you know where plastic comes from?” “No, where?” “Well, plastic is made from a derivative of petroleum products. Essentially, oil.” “Do you know where oil comes from?” “Where?” “Well, millions of years ago, the dinosaurs died and eventually became the oil deposits from which we produce many products.” “”Okay. But, why are they taking so long?” “Oh. They’re in the back waiting for the dinosaur to die.”

Just made an appointment for my over 65 ID card at Bragg. Did it on line and without any hassle. Got my confirmation by email a few minutes later. Have no idea what is going to happen when everyone is trying to do this, but you can get an appointment 30 days out.

Oh yes, if you need an appointment, almost all the days in October and first week in November are open. :munchin :D
