ALAMO, Calif. —
A California Highway Patrol officer was wounded and a suspect killed in Highway 680 shootout during Tuesday’s morning rush-hour commute, authorities said.

Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jimmy Lee said two officers were attempting a traffic stop of a green Jeep Wrangler when gunfire erupted around 8:20 a.m. on the shoulder of Highway 680 near Alamo.

ALL,

We just received this.................Be Advised:

Please inform the people on the link below that CHP Officer Kenyon Youngstrom is NOT deceased. He is alive but in critical condition in ICU at a local hospital. Not sure where or how "monsterhunter" got his info, but I want to let the people in your group know that this fine officer is still alive and our prayers are with him and his family for a quick recovery.

Thank you.

Time for Thoughts and Prayers!!

We received a call at our station from CHP asking us to wear our black bands in his honor. We were told by the local CHP watch commander that he died from his wounds at the hospital.

After seeing this update, I called the watch commander back. They had been informed the same, but then they were told to take the black bands off as he was alive and on life support. They never called us with the update. Unfortunately, he was taken off of life support tonight and passed away.

I'm sorry about the confusion.

I am unfortunate enough to have had this event unfold about a mile from our house. The shooting took place @ 8:38 AM Tuesday. The shooter was killed on site, and Officer Youngstrom was taken to john Muir Hospital- one of the finest tramua centers in the East San Francisco Bay Area. He was kept alive throughout the night and today so that his family could all arrive and say goodbye. here was some hope mid day that he would survive. He passed @ 6:05 PM tonight.
Still no real motive or reson for the shooter to have gone off the deep end.
