Obama administration divided over designating Haqqani network as terrorist network group

By Karen DeYoung, Published: FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 11:58 AM ET

Just days before a congressional deadline, the Obama administration is deeply divided over whether to designate the Pakistan-based Haqqani network as a terrorist group, with some officials worried that doing so could complicate efforts to restart peace talks with the Taliban and undermine already-fraught relations with Pakistan.

Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point called the Haqqani network “an efficient, transnational jihadi industry” that has “penetrated key business sectors, including import-export, transport, real estate and construction in Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Arab Gulf and beyond”

Really! REALLY!!! WTH is up with this administration?! I wish Fox News had an Evening News to push this out. This history it's likely the biggest reason this administration doesn't label then a terrorist group. Frickin crazy!

Maybe they should designate the Haqqani network as a "man-caused-disaster" network...
...those aren't nearly as scary to deal with.

"Obama administration divided over designating Haqqani network as terrorist network"

That's hard to believe, but then again it's much easier to designate:

"Returning (American) Veterans as possible Terrorist Threats".

I see that as ISAF & NATO withdraw Haqqani network will become a pressing issues for everyone. Since Haqqani being in the Eastern Afghanistan it will be an issues for Americans. Here is a network that had a power broker since the mujahideen days, 2002 Jalalludin Haqqani rose to prominence as a senior military leader and fought for power (control) of Afghanistan. He lost so took his power and became fighting ISAF & GIROA. Like Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Haqqani was more successful than other resistance leaders at forging relationships with outsiders prepared to sponsor resistance to the Soviets, including the CIA, Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and wealthy Arab private donors from the Persian Gulf. Hamid Karzai had invited the elder Haqqani to serve as Prime Minister in an attempt to bring "moderate" Taliban into the government. However, the offer was refused by Jalaluddin. In 2008, CIA officials confronted Pakistani officials with evidence of ties between Inter-Services Intelligence and Jalaluddin Haqqani but the ISI denied the allegations. Haqqani along with son Sirajuddin are currently the commanders of the Haqqani network, which is believed to be based in Waziristan, Pakistan. The Taliban, identified Waziristan as the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan, Funny thing its that both the ISI and Al Qaeda which both sorry Haqqani in their own way. ISI guaranteed sanctuary in North Waziristan by refusing to go after the network on Pakistan lands. Al Qaeda provides latest technology, training, and ideology inspiration. In Waziristan Haqqani network access to secure training areas, hundreds of suicide bombers, fighters, bombers, supporters, etc from the number of ISI &Al Qaeda militant madrassas in the FATA. Haqqani network has the singular ability to mount devastating planning, coordinations, suicide attacks where ever they wish.

Now with both father and son running operations, most likely from both sides of the AFPAK borders. With Badruddin Haqqani, who has been described as the organization's day-to-day operations commander, killed on Aug. 24 in one of three strikes that hit militant hideouts in the Shawal Valley in Pakistan's North Waziristan dead will only change things for a shirt period. Just as when Jalaluddin Haqqani passed the control torch to his son Sirajuddin didn't change things much. I feel there control is split really, I will say that Sirajuddin is more aggressive than his father. Sirajuddin has admitted planning the 2008 attack against the Serena Hotel in Kabul that killed six people, including American citizen Thor Hesla, as well as having planned the 2008 assassination attempt on Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Yes attacks on American (ISAF) have increased since Sirajuddin had taken control. Some even say he is the reason for the increase of Taliban movement in the last couple years.

So why did the USDoS have to "think" labeling the Haqqani network? Crazy is why!
