As in a Pell Grant, which allows underprivileged people to get higher education?
Am I anywhere near?

I know the answer but I cheated and looked it up. Any way thanks for bringing it up otherwise I would have never known what it is.

Didn't Bruce Lee use a more modern version to practice his strikes and blocks?

Not sure what you are referring too but I just had a nursing student from somewhere in SWA bring me in a whole little plastic cups of those "pells" to take before dinner.

Used 'em in the SCA to practice sword techniques. I didn't know the martial arts ones were called pells also. Interesting. I figured they'd have some cool Eastern sounding name for 'em. (Unless that's where the term originated.) I always assumed the name was European.

P.S. Anyone ever been called a walking pell?

In the hi-ya crowd these are refered to as "Wong Chung Dummies."

I believe you are referring to Wing Chun dummy (http://www.wckfc.com/news/dummy/) or "Mok yan jong" as they call it in my school.
Great for basic and forms, not so much for actual combat conditioning

Yes, Bruce Lee used it in his early years while still training under Yip Man...
here's a trivia, Lee Jun Fan, Bruce's original Chinese name is a girls name
