View Full Version : How Will Israel's Annihilation of Iran Affect the Election?
IMO, this will happen this time, and soon.
Will it serve as a dog-wagger?
So... how much money are you putting on this?

Not here to argue - just came for the free beer. I don't think it will happen prior to the elections.
I'd say they're likely to do something in the next three months, but honestly I published the same prediction in an article I wrote several months ago. Mossad is undoubtedly one of the top intelligence services in the world and so they are probably well aware of how close Iran is to developing a nuclear weapon which according to western media today is closer than we realized. Some of those 2014-2016 predictions are now looking more like 2013-2014 and Israel can't allow Iran and its proxies to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Its becoming more of a question of when rather than if. I'll be sitting back and watching the fireworks on Fox :munchin

There's admittedly a tad of wishful thinking on my part.
I doubt Israel wants to do anything to screw up Obama's ouster...

I guess that's it; more wishful thinking than anything.
Partly for the kicking of Khamenei's ass and partly for Obama's world class hissy fit.

Obamallama will just claim all the credit and initiative for himself, just like everything else. "You didn't bomb that! Someone else bombed Iran for you!"
"Let me be clear...I could no more bomb Iran than I could remove Joe Biden from the ticket..."
They must be gettin' antsy in Tehran.

That sounds about right, although if Obama did let us do something about a nation that not only supports, but also starts, funds and leads terrorist groups, get a nuclear bomb (funny thought we would try to stop them, right?) it would be nice to see one of those new 30,000 lbs MOP bombs in action. :munchin

Well Iran is getting antsy, it is reported that they pressed Saudi not to allow an over flight. :munchin
Saudi's prolly gettin' jumpy too with nuclear Iran on the horizon.
Throw in election year = one big tinderbox - even under the best of circumstances.

Saudi Arabia doesn't want a nuclear Iran, but they don't want more trouble with AQAP. If the Saudi's were seen as helping the Israelis then al Qaeda would have its excuse to pop up from Yemen.

Imagine that , a nation of Wahhabi Muslims is worried that Islamic terrorists might attack them for not being Muslim enough.
Thats like rudolph the red nosed reindeer attacking frosty the snowman for not believing in santa clause.
...maybe I am just looking at this wrong.

Here's a way to divert attention from the "economy, stupid"...
Former Military Intelligence head Amos Yadlin on Saturday urged US President Barack Obama to visit Israel to allay fears that Washington is not fully committed to stopping the Iranian nuclear program.
“The US president should visit Israel and tell its leadership – and, more important, its people – that preventing a nuclear Iran is a US interest, and if we have to resort to military action, we will,” Yadlin said in an opinion piece published in The Washington Post.
Yadlin also asked the US to provide Israel with advanced military technology and intelligence, contingent on Israeli pledges to delay a strike.
Yadlin presented a five-point plan to the Obama administration designed to convince “allies and adversaries alike that military action is real, imminent and doable.”
He called on Obama to notify Congress in writing that he reserves the right to use military force on Iran. He added that the US should increase its military presence in the Persian Gulf, and should also publicly commit to the security of its allies in the region.
Yadlin, who left his IDF post in 2010 and is currently the head of the Institute for National Security Studies, has been a vocal supporter of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who have both hinted that Israel would not leave the fate of Israel in the hands of the US.
“Israel cannot afford to outsource its security to another country,” Yadlin wrote in the Washington Post. “But if the United States wants Israel to give sanctions and diplomacy more time, Israelis must know that they will not be left high and dry if these options fail.”
Yadlin, one of the pilots who took part in the 1981 attack on Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor, hinted that Israel was capable of hitting the heart of the Iranian nuclear program, but said Israel would need US support “both the day after and the decade after a strike.”

http://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-determined-to-attack-iran-before-us-elections-claims-israels-channel-10/
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is determined to attack Iran before the US elections,” Israel’s Channel 10 News claimed on Monday night, and Israel is now “closer than ever” to a strike designed to thwart Iran’s nuclear drive.
The TV station’s military reporter Alon Ben-David, who earlier this year was given extensive access to the Israel Air Force as it trained for a possible attack, reported that, since upgraded sanctions against Iran have failed to force a suspension of the Iranian nuclear program in the past two months, “from the prime minister’s point of view, the time for action is getting ever closer.”
Asked by the news anchor in the Hebrew-language TV report how close Israel now was to “a decision and perhaps an attack,” Ben-David said: “It appears that we are closer than ever.”
He said it seemed that Netanyahu was not waiting for a much-discussed possible meeting with US President Barack Obama, after the UN General Assembly gathering in New York late next month — indeed, “it’s not clear that there’ll be a meeting.” In any case, said Ben-David, “I doubt Obama could say anything that would convince Netanyahu to delay a possible attack.”
The report added that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak believe Obama would have no choice but to give backing for an Israeli attack before the US presidential elections in November.
There is considerable opposition to an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the report noted — with President Shimon Peres, the army’s chief of the General Staff and top generals, the intelligence community, opposition leader Shaul Mofaz, “and of course the Americans” all lined up against Israeli action at this stage.
But, noted Ben-David, it is the Israeli government that would have to take the decision, and there Netanyahu is “almost guaranteed” a majority.
Other Hebrew media reports on Tuesday also said Netanyahu had despatched a senior official, National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror, to update the elderly spiritual leader of the Shas ultra-Orthodox coalition party, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, on the status of the Iranian nuclear program, in order to try to win over Shas government ministers’ support for an attack.

Bibi's the man. They need to bottle some of his testosterone and inject it into American politicians. He's been pretty spot on with his observations and advice about Islamic intent for decades. Former Israeli Special Forces, etc, the guy's hardcore. Unleash the Beast.
(As a trivial sidenote, I was on the phone with him once from Tampa in 1991 at the behest of my boss and Netanyahu--who was a Likud party member at the time, I think-- had to cut the call short to don a gas mask during a Scud missile attack. The ironic thing was that he heard the attack warning first through our phone connection because we had Radio Tel Aviv on our office shortwave.)

If and when this goes down the Israelis will have to inform the U.S. Military or chance a shoot-down, which means we'll know when it's going down.
I wonder if the Israelis will tell the Russians as I'm sure there are some Russian scientists working in that nuke plant?
To those iranians on the "anti-aircraft" batteries your days are numbered.;)

Iran unveils upgraded missile as Israel turns to talk of attack plan
Published August 21, 2012
FoxNews.com
Iran’s president unveiled an upgraded version of one of its short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles Tuesday, amid a report that a top Israeli national security adviser met with a prominent rabbi hoping to persuade him in favor of an attack on Iran's nuclear program.
The upgraded version of the missile was revealed just weeks after it was test-fired, the country's state-media reported.
At the ceremony for Fateh-110, or Conqueror, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told a group of defense officials that Iran wants to advance its defense technology "not in an aggressive context, but as a deterrence."
"We do not seek it for conquest, domination of neighboring countries and the world. We do not want it because of defiance," said Ahmadinejad, according to state TV.
The official IRNA news agency reported Tuesday that the new version of Fateh-110 has a quicker launch capability, a longer life and can be used in adverse weather conditions, but gave no other details. The missile has been in service in Iran over the past decade.
Iran claimed earlier this month that it successfully test-fired the missile, saying at the time that Fateh-110 has an improved accuracy to strike land and naval targets within a 185-mile range.
Iran considers both the United States and Israel as potential adversaries. Neither country has ruled out a military strike against Iran's nuclear program, which they claim is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes.

I don't know how many they have, TS, but I hope they use everything they've got, F15s, F16s, attack helos, missiles...and to hell with the Russians. They dug their hole, let em die in it.

I suspect they will need to keep some in reserve to protect against new threats from Egypt or the Russian Fleet.
Now if they have acquired a few Harriers and some cargo/container ships... imagine the possibilities...

Everyone calm down: Israel is not going to bomb Iran. Well, at least not in 2012.
BY AARON DAVID MILLER | AUGUST 20, 2012

Excerpt:
Worried about a war with Iran, regional instability, more terrorism, rising oil prices or plunging markets? Don't be -- at least not yet. Think 2013. If Israel can't get assurances that the U.S. is prepared to use force, then Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak will act later this year or early next.
But for now, there will be no war and certainly no deal over the nuclear issue. And the reason for that is pretty compelling: the mullahs, the Israelis, and the Americans all don't want one right now -- and here's why.

So true. That speech he gave a few months ago here in the US to the Jewish Group (sorry, the name is escaping me at this moment)...was so inspiring. I was thinking I hadn't heard a statesman like that since Ronald Reagan. Someone with backbone, vision, understood how the world worked, and really understood the concept that weakness invites aggression.

I felt the same way when I watched his testimony to a US Congressional committee in the aftermath of 9/11. Brilliant and perceptive, he was the only lightbulb glowing in that room.
One thing he said struck me regarding militant Islam, and I can only paraphrase: he said, right now they have the manpower and we have the weapons to counter that manpower...don't wait for them to have both the weapons and the manpower for by then it will be too late.
I would be more concerned about the Saudis and Egypt trying to counter-balance Iran by going to Pakistan for nukes.
As for Russia, Israel has been renewing[1] relations with them, so I would venture that they are trying to neutralize them diplomatically for when they attack.

There's a good reason for that.

Indeed, the question is, will the next administration be able to repair relations in time. IMO: Russia is no friend, they took a 20 year hiatus, that's about it.
