View Full Version : Would you like to see some video of a guy stealing a campaign sign from my yard?

Well, soon you'll be able to.
Kyobanim:
The video has been uploaded to your site. It is called FinalVideo1013.wmv. Would you be so kind as to post a link in this thread?
Martin:
I tried your site, but it does not allow .wmv files. If you change that before Kyobanim posts a link, I'll upload to your site.

I would like to see a video of a guy stealing a campaign sign from your front lawn. I would also like to see said guy getting his ass kicked!
Well done mate. I haven't been following the saga too closely, though. Has the gentleman been arrested and charged?

I have all my computers and all my TVs on and I am looking out the window. Still no video. :munchin
Ass kicked indeed. Y'know, I'm just up the road; if you, as counsel, are too civilized, I'm more than happy to head on down and do some dirty work for you (no comments about college boys, NDD ;)). In the interest of getting some good video, of course. ;)

What a piece of shit! The fucker just grabs it and leaves. Well, good for the democRATs.
Cockgobbler.
Does anybody have some good image grabbing software? I can't get it good enough with just Print Screen.
Looks like that might be a Merc he's driving. Can't quite tell, though.
What's with the movement of the camera? Did you set the servo to rotate?
Kyobanim

Huey, You can open the movie with windows movie maker that comes with XP. It's not great because of the file format but you can try to manipulate the image with it. View it frame by frame to grab what you want. If it was AVI we could get more detail.
I'm running Win2k unfortunately.

Well, you have a video of someone taking the sign.
OTOH, that was one of the worst video shots I have ever seen.
What is with the jittery image and poor horizontal control?
Could have been Jason from "Friday the 13th" taking the sign.
Is the original any clearer? Maybe enough to pick up the license or his face?
If so, turn it over to the cops and Fox News.
Agree with Harsey, you need to update your coating so that the next one taking a sign and tossing it into a car has reason to regret it.
You have checked the block, nonetheless. Who had 15 Oct for the date?

The jittery image is something I have not been able to figure out, despite talking to some knowledgeable people including the supplier of the camera. The original is no better.
My kid, I believe based on your avatar, is calling you the "Army policeman" and asking if you are going to put the man who took the sign in jail. LMAO!!!

Well, if we knew who he was, and he lived nearby, I just might pay him a visit.

Good to hear it's online, Sir.
I've now added wmv for future use. There's a list of allowed extensions when you're logged in, I thought I had covered most useful ones, but if you might need something else... just shout.
Back to work...

Well, its video. Reminds me of when I was a kid and I had to "Go turn the antenna" when the old man wanted to watch one of the other two stations. Outside, in the rain and wind, twisting on a pole. "More, more, right there! Go back dumbass! You went to far!" It looked just like that when I was about a 1/4 turn off.
"Hit the hole pole man make it bleed" wasn't shit for me in jump school. Thanks Dad.

I am going to grease up a new sign tonight and see if someone will take it. Maybe we'll get something more amusing.
In the meantime, though, let's work on this.
1. Make of vehicle? Looks like a Porsche Cayenne to me, but I'm not sure.
2. Can anyone make out the license plate?

I had another taken last night. Video has been edited and is being saved in new format -- processing should be done in another 30 mins or so. May be same person, but hard to tell. This video was bad because the brake lights from the car made it very hard to see the person. Looks like a Lincoln Navigator, though.
Because it was raining hard last night, I did not grease the sign. I will put out a greased one today, though. I'll post the link here shortly.

RL, If you can shoot me the segment with the car and man in AVI or mpg format I can probably pull off what you need. Zip it up and put it where you put the last one. WMV just doesn't give you the resolution you need.

Appreciate your effort, but was hoping for something of a bit better technical quality.
Little way to go after them with what you are getting.
You have put a lot of effort into the cause, though, and for that you should be applauded.

So do I stop or keep going (now that it is finally working)?

Went out to grease the sign. Had an idea. Glue the three metal frame pieces together so it's harder to pull the sign off. Did so with Gorilla Glue.
Then it started raining again. Had another idea. Hold off on the stink. Cover the top of the sign with Gorilla Glue. Then cover the glue with Vaseline to insulate it. Did so.
Will add stink when the rain stops. Think the Vaseline will prevent the glue from drying?
:munchin
Your efforts are not wasted. The antics amuse me mostly because I live among the same type of people, and that this area, like yours, suffers from a dearth of Bush/Cheney signs (all the ones set out tend to be found destroyed the next day).
If fireworks were legal in this state, I would recommend attaching some sort of hidden 'howler' (perhaps at the bottom of the post hole?) attached to the post of the sign with a rip-cord/string. It might not awake/alert you, but it'd sure surprise some guy in the midst of wiping Gorilla Glue all over himself. ;)
So do I stop or keep going (now that it is finally working)?
RL,
Send up a higher resolution file so we can enhance it.

The glue sign was taken this am, right after I reset the camera. The video still shakes, but the image of the guy is very clear if you freeze it. I saved it in mpeg and avi, but could not upload this am because my cable modem is out at home (it is raining here, and that often screws up cable). I will upload it when I can.

You know Doc, I was just thinking what I would really like to see is a shotgun rolling them across the lawn, or a large animal chewing them up.
After that, I realized that legal constraints would preclude that in Kali, so I thought that a heavy duty sprinkler system (loaded with dye, perhaps) with a motion sensor attached to the sign would probably be the best bet. Unless you have a way to activate a "Stop Stick" under their car when they touch the sign.
Now, any of those would be hilarious on video.

Someone was suggesting a paintball grenade in one of the planning threads, but I think we thought the risk of hitting innocent bystanders/vehicles was too great . . .
I am prepared to reconsider. :munchin

Negative.
But if the sprinklers came on, what are they going to do, call the cops and tell them they got sprayed by your sprinkler system while vandalizing your property?
Not illegal, not malicious, not a potentially dangerous device. Just bad timing on their part.

Internet access finally restored!
You can get the mpeg file of the October 19 theft here. (http://www.pmfp.net/fileupload/store/final1019.mpg)
Having trouble uploading the avi version for some reason.
I have a nice greasy sign under surveillance now.

Nice clear, can make out features etc.

That footage was great, but her stated motivation was even funnier. She said that signs were not allowed in the development, and she was just enforcing the association rules. So they went to her house in the same development, lo and behold, her property has signs all over the place.

The candidate's wife was stealing signs in Colorado. Her husband is running for the state legislature; she was also stealing Bush signs and Pete Coors for Senate signs.
