Periodic visitor, probably enroute to/from MI or MN. A lush, food-rich area couple miles west of me near top of a little pass that separates me from the area that drops down toward La Crosse and the River. Lots of turkey, deer (and probably a cocker-spaniel or two). This was during a recent very hot & dry spell in this neck of the woods, probably heading for a place to lay up. Hell, I would...
That one has some size to it.

Thats one sturdy cat! Great muscular development. Mature and obviously a successful predator...very nice pics! Awesome to see a dominant north american cat! Keep us posted!

It quite often takes awhile for the DNR to establish diplomatic relations with the facts (went through this with wolves & black bears in the southern half), but it looks like this map (http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/WildlifeHabitat/documents/CougarObsMap.pdf) will get a new star.
Some QP's will be familiar with the area from years past. Judging by time of day & direction of travel the cat looks to be ready to avoid the heat and lay up in a position to leverage anything that falls into the Badger DZ and doesn't keep moving...

I do agree, peak summer & that cat looks pretty good.

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/Yep, had 'em in the foothills when I was a shaver growing up in Van Nuys. I'm just glad they haven't been displaced by some of the other "cougars" out there - often the cat is much better lookin'.

Yep.
A few years ago one was drugged and caught by animal control near where I live and I live in a well developed area. There is some open country left but it's miles away.
Mountain Lions actually require some pretty big space to feed from. Something like 900 square miles.
