"Navy Cmdr. Michael P. Ward II, who has been accused of having an affair with a 23-year-old Chesapeake, Va., woman and faking his death as a means of ending it, has been relieved of his duties as the commanding officer of the USS Pittsburgh, just one week after he was put in command.
But WAIT! There's MORE!!
He's a POSER!
"The woman said Ward sent her emails using the name Tony Moore, explaining that he had to use the name because of his position in the special forces. She said Ward told her his real name after they met.
But WAIT! There's MORE!!
He's an IDIOT!
"On July 6, she received an email from his address purporting to be from a man named Bob who worked with Ward.
"He asked me to contact you if this ever happened," the email says. "I am extremely sorry to tell you that he is gone. We tried everything we could to save him. I cannot say more. I am sorry it has to be this way. The email goes on to say, "He loved you very much," and that Bob had something Ward had wanted to give to her. The woman said that on July 9, she drove with her family members to Ward's house in Burke, Va., to pay her respects and learned from the new owner that Ward was alive and had moved to Connecticut to take command of a submarine.
I'm no one to judge -- being a QP -- but if you asked me, I'd probably say being the Commander of a Nuclear-Powered Fast Attack Submarine has to be ALMOST as cool as being a Special Forces Soldier.

What is even more disturbing to me is that he was actually selected to command a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine.
What's next a Manchurian candidate gets elected President of a superpower?

What's next a Manchurian candidate gets elected President of a superpower? According to some, that's already happened:D
Sounds like they all took an O2 hit and suffered some 'rapture of the deep' hallucinations.

I thought he was Kenyan.
Wow. As former Navy, I am shocked at this report. I can understand a couple enlisted guys claiming to be CH-46 pilots during a port visit in order to try and boost the pick up factor, but I wouldn't have ever expected anything like this from a CO. Makes me all the more glad the levels of professionalisim and military bearing I was around and that which was exemplified by the 25 officers on my warship (well, I say it was mine, but I had to share).

Why is this news? Is it because he was a sub commander? Is it because he had an affair with a much younger woman? Is it because it was not an openly homosexual affair?

This is a public service announcement for all the players out there to take a relook at their tradecraft and step their game up...

I thought it newsworthy because of the posing angle. I like it that the Commanding Officer of a Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarine gets laid by telling chicks he's me. :D

WHO READ Cmdr. Ward's Personnel Jacket, intervied him & than recommended his promotion? Either this guy has considerable political influence or the Navy command authority who recommended this promotion is out to lunch?
CHANGE....WE need to change the Commander -In-Chief this Nov....TK

That's funny right there. I was alluding to the fact that there's a lot of news of late, of our "openly" lesbian General. Seems to me if he had a homosexual affair he probably would have kept his job.
He shoulda just gotten a Corvette or a Harley and did a mid-life Walter Mitty. ;)
And so it goes...

For the shallow, nothing is ever enough!
Women love me...
...Nuclear-Powered Fast Attack Submarine Commanders want to BE me.
For the shallow, nothing is ever enough!
Hilarious, and yet deeply profound, sir.

Couldn't he have just chewed his arm off and snuck out of town early in the morning?

Our Navy bought three subs from the Germans, and insisted that unqualified BEE people be trained to crew them. The Germans supplied the subs, but refused to pass the trainees as competent. Knowing Germany's history of racial discrimination, the Navy sent the same trainees to India, who surprisingly, also refused to pass them. Undeterred, our Navy continued using the unqualified trainees as crew and the first submarine was dived without the conning tower door being closed, resulting in it becoming scrap in a dry-dock for 5 years, the second sub was destroyed when one of the technicians plugged it into a power source on the dock meant for ships, not the submarine which ran on half the voltage. He fried all the electronics and it has sat in dock for 3 years. Last week, our last new sub was crash-dived into the sea bed, crushing its nose, so it also is out of commission for a few years. We have yet to hear of any inquiry or any disciplinary action to be taken. We anticipate that equipment failure will be the cause of all these incidents, as it was when a female BEE recruit sprayed her own platoon with anti-aircraft fire, killing them all during a demonstration exercise. Count your blessings.

An affair doesn't qualify as a fast attack.

I guess he failed to dive deeply enough, quickly enough, to avoid the depth charging from the surface combatant he had trifled with.
Given his inability to shake off his mistress, I agree with his relief from command.
And definitely not SF material.
