The story has been unfolding for the past three hours or so. Been following it on a couple of other sites.

Very confused situation right now - but sounds like more than one perp.

Another unarmed target.

Shooting at Sikh temple: Seven dead, including suspected gunman, police say

At least seven people were killed, including the suspected gunman, in a shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., south of Milwaukee on Sunday.

According to police, a 911 dispatcher received multiple calls from the temple at approximately 10:25 a.m. local time. An officer who responded to the scene engaged with the suspected gunman in the parking lot. The veteran officer was shot multiple times and is in surgery at Milwaukee's Froedhert Hospital, according to a police spokesman. His condition is not known.

The suspect was "put down" and is presumed dead, he said.

Tactical units conducting a sweep of the 17,000-square-foot temple discovered four bodies inside and three--including the gunman--in the parking lot. There were initial, unconfirmed reports of multiple shooters and a hostage situation, though the police spokesman would not confirm those reports. "We have not identified additional shooters," he said.

A spokesman for Froedtert Hospital said a total of three victims were admitted in critical condition--two with gunshot wounds to the face and one with gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Other area hospitals were told to prepare for as many as 20 victims.

According to NBC's Milwaukee affiliate, a SWAT team entered the temple and were releasing worshipers.

"..............Sources identified the dead suspect as Wade Michael Page, who was at one time attached to the Fort Bragg Army installation in North Carolina. Local authorities have scheduled a 10 a.m. press conference, where more details may emerge about Page and what the FBI is treating as an act of domestic terrorism in the temple, in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek......................"

Fort Bragg, hmmmm. News folks are going to be digging around the area for a while.

Well, he was rousted on a less-than-honorable discharge, but this will poke the yellowjacket nest, for sure.

It's almost like somebody is Sirhanning these nutjobs lately.

Though police have not given any details on the motive of the shooter, but Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms Special Agent Thomas Ahern said Page had tattoos that suggested he had ties to white supremacists.

"It is being investigated. And what his tattoos signified is being investigated. They are all pieces of a possible puzzle to learn what was his motive in carrying out such a horrific act," Ahern said.

While in the Army Wade served as a sergeant, and later as a specialist based in Ft. Bliss in Texas and at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina. Wade's job was as a Hawk missile system repairman, and he then became a psychological operations specialist, defense official confirmed to ABC news.

Now investigating as an act or terrorism/hate crime.

And so it goes...

Anecdotally, NBC's Today's report on the shooting downplayed the alleged attacker's military background and isolated the description of the killings as an act of "domestic terrorism" to the local LEO.

Meanwhile, CBS emphasized the attacker's military background and raised the outrageous question if veterans of the armed services are "tracked" by .GOV. The report also downplayed the domestic terrorist angle.

NPR's report heavily emphasized the attacker's time in the army, almost as if his time in the service alone explained his motivation. The report sought to allay concerns that the attack was part of a larger plot by using a soundbite by a federal LEO. IMO, the subtext of this report was that while soldiers are potentially ticking time bombs, American citizens can count on federal law enforcement for protection. It was hard to determine if this specific report reflected editorial bias, journalistic incompetence, the decrepit state of civil-military relations, or a combination of the three.

Also, the local Tribune broadcast outlet focused on the "area connection." In this case, one of the slain had just visited a Sikh temple in the L.A. area. In an on camera interview, a Sikh pointed out that since 9/11, he and other members of his faith have been frequently mistaken for Muslims. He elegantly questioned the level of tolerance in America for either faith since 9/11.

And then this outlet got back to what is most important in L.A. -- traffic, weather, the entertainment industry, and reports filed by very good looking women. (And if you've ever seen some of the reporters for the local L.A. broadcast outlets, you'd understand why this entire paragraph is not in pink.)

A lot of people go through life with hate as their prime motivator. There are a lot of people in this nation who will invoke their particular God as their justification to hate and/or subjugate/oppress a particular people. Fortunately we continue to move forward despite them.

Yes sir, and they are at it again today, all references to shooter, first and foremost, as Army Veteran...

This assclown spends just six of his 40 years in the Army, and all they can call him is an Army Veteran, a soldier, and a paratrooper.

Prayers out for the victims.

I guess the Sikh's have been disarmed, too. I had expected that they would have had their Kirpans handy:

His community under attack, Sikh Temple of Wisconsin president Satwant Singh Kaleka fought back with all his strength and a simple butter knife, trying to stab a murderous gunman before taking two fatal gunshots to the leg.
