New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg knows what's best for new moms and he's forcing his opinion (the Governments) on the people of New York City.
Mayor Bloomberg, make sure you disarm the average citizen before you force them to bend to your will!!!! (Already did that.)
Sheeple of NYC, your government knows what's best, they will choose for you.

NYC mayor wants hospitals to lock up baby formula to encourage breast-feeding
Published July 29, 2012
New York Post
The nanny state is going after moms.
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.
Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
'But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.'
- Allison Walsh, of Beth Israel Medical Center.
Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.
“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”
Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.
With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/29/nyc-mayor-wants-hospitals-to-lock-up-baby-formula-to-encourage-breast-feeding/?test=latestnews#ixzz227paJECC
This is such hypocrisy. The same people who would seek to eliminate a woman's choice of how and what she feeds her child because 'they' know whats best, fight to give a woman the choice to end an unwanted child's life.

I get the theory behind Latch On's (apparently not doin' so hot) program; but another example of something Guv has no business being in.
I think Bloomberg is jealous of Kim Jong-un because a PRK leader has sooooo many other titles - and [Big] Soda Jerk wasn't cuttin' it for him.

Wow. No fire arms, no big gulps, no transfats and now no Baby Formula. Bloomberg is making moves to put him up there with the worst the Left has to offer. What's next, eye glasses? Dennis Praeger says not to compare leftists like Bloomberg to Mao and Stalin, so I won't...
If any of you have dealt with the La Leche League, you will know they are happy about this. I had a friend whose wife was a breast feeder. Even though she wasn't producing enough milk, she refused to give their daughter formula. the baby looked like it was from Auschwitz.

Speaking of Nanny Bloomberg, here's one for the record:
http://www.theblaze.com/blog/2012/08/01/michael-bloomberg-gun-control-new-york-city-sells-gun-shells-georgia/
The Aurora, Colo., theater shootings that took place earlier this month spurred New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to get out his makeup kit and quickly book as many media appearances as he could to advocate gun control.
“[T]he most egregious gaps in gun regulation can be filled,” Bloomberg wrote in an op-ed last week. A few days earlier on CNN he said, “You (the public) can call your congressman, you can call your senator and say, ‘I don’t care, I‘m holding you responsible even if you say you’re going to vote for rationality with guns. I’m going to hold you responsible…” And just before that, on CBS discussing the Aurora shooting he said, “particularly in a presidential year… it’s time for this country to do something.”
Yet, in the New York Times today, Bloomberg’s chief policy adviser John Feinblatt says “We’re about crime control. We’re not about gun control.”
The quote came in response to the Times inquiring Bloomberg’s office why the city sold almost 30,000 pounds of Police Department’s used shell casings to an ammunition store in Georgia, which has far less restrictive gun laws than New York.
The key word to Bloomberg and his ilk appears to be...CONTROL...in many forms and fashion.

On the Bloomberg and Breast is Best story, my post might sound a little bit kooky.
My wife and I support a local agency that provides free periodic medical checkups for infants and toddlers.
Our support has included baby milk powder. When it's heavily discounted, which is quite infrequently in recent years, we try to clear the shelves as best we can. We have seen first hand and have known young parents who are running very tight financially. Very tight. So tight that even when it's on super sale they are counting money to buy 1-2 tins.
And the price of baby milk powder has simply exploded in recent years(like many commodities). From the time our children were born until now we've seen prices double to triple, and it's only been 7 years.
Could commentary such as this be a way to simply avoid what I think is a more genuine question of:
Why is it becoming increasingly harder to afford to feed my infant properly?
Doesn't a stance of "Breast is best" simply allow that more important question to be conveniently avoided?
Awesome - now we just need the owners of Hooters to somehow piss off some idiotic, hypocritical politicians (sorry for the redundancy) and we'll have another excuse for some chicken' ! ;)
They only taste like chicken.

Bloomberg is an idiot.
When I had my daughter, I was guilted into trying to breast feed her by the lactation specialists at the hospital. At first, I like most new monthers, wanted to breast feed, but the kid refused to cooperate. They told me not to worry, even if she wasn't eating is was normal.
So by the time I took her home 2 days later she had lost about .5 pound and I was in hysterics because my child was hungry, but couldn't latch on. I hadn't slept in over 3 days and was just overwhelmed.
Luckily my mom was there, and she is an RN. She finally couldn't take it anymore, came in a got the kid, told me to go to go the f*ck to sleep :) and she was giving the baby a bottle.
As it turned out, the kid had an abnormally large tongue for a baby her size, and needed a longer nipple to hold her tongue down so she could suckle. From that day on she was a bottle baby, which was a godsend in retrospect. As a single mom, it was really helpful that while I was on maternity leave at my parents house they could help out with the feedings.
I am sure there are cases out there of mom's who don't know best. And who don't take care of their children, but hiding formulas from them isn't going to make them a better mom. Also having gone through the whole feelings of guilt thrust upon me by the medical community and other mothers that I was not taking care of my child appropriately, caused my daughter unnecessary discomfort for the first 3 days of her life.

I have two children, one breastfed, one bottlefed; both are doing just fine. While Bloomberg is definitely about control, hes also about the money. The city shells out quite a bit in entitlements, the federal and state block grants don't quite cover it all; long term debt[1][2], and the fact that there won't be any windfall settlements from SAIC's time and attendance boondoggle to bridge the budget gap[3] next year means there will come a point where hole will be too wide to gap without tax increases, specifically property taxes. That will send more young, productive professionals to the hills, and the nanny state will go down in a spectacular fiscal failure.

Chick-fil-A Americans Give Big Government the Bird
Investors Business Daily
August 3, 2012
http://news.investors.com/article/620794/201208021848/chick-fil-a-voters-send-a-message-to-power-mad-government.htm?p=full
Democracy: Millions of Americans across the country lined up for hours, to buy chicken sandwiches — and take a stand for free speech. That's a de facto demonstration, from a public that's fed up with way-too-powerful government. It was a majestic spectacle seeing citizens in cities large and small across America — including, yes, Chicago — line up at Chick-fil-A restaurants to support the right to free speech, freedom of religion and freedom of association.
All of those were under attack when President Obama's former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, now mayor of Chicago, along with leftist aldermen in his city and the mayors of Boston and Washington, D.C., condemned Chick-fil-A as "hate chicken" and vowed to expel the chain from their cities.
Why did this happen? Because the company's CEO, Dan Cathy, expressed his personal support for traditional marriage, a view seen by the left as a threat to the one they're pushing: gay marriage.
Cathy didn't say anything about hating gays, nor did his restaurant refuse to serve food to gays, nor did he vow to never hire a gay person. He merely expressed an opinion and the leftist power structure — in the media and in politics — went ballistic.
But it's a common view in America.
Voters have rejected gay marriage propositions in the states 32 out of 32 times. That the left can rain its full intolerance and contempt down on the majority speaks volumes about its contempt for the public.
Emanuel himself declared the view "un-American" and contrary to "Chicago values."
It shows that the leftist political establishment's interests have nothing in common with what the American public sees as important — which is not just the gay marriage issue but, more fundamentally, the fact that free speech, the right to practice one's faith and freedom of association are under attack.
It's significant that West Hollywood's Chick-fil-A on Sunset Boulevard, a famous gay redoubt, was just as packed as Chick-fil-As in places like Opelika, Ala.; Waddell, Ariz.; Pompano Beach, Fla.
Even many of those who support gay marriage, such as Instapundit.com's Glenn Reynolds, have come out solidly for everyone's right to free speech without fear of big government intimidation.
The proof was in the pictures.
From Steve Hogge's photo of Rolls-Royces lining up at Chick-fil-A's Davie, Fla., drive-through window, to Political Derby's photo of troops and lawmen lining up in Charleston, S.C., the image was of a huge silent protest from the majority.
The call for free speech is a strong one because government has grown overarching, arrogant and more powerful as its size has expanded.
The protest Wednesday was a powerful echo of the Tea Party movement, which expresses the same voter cry of "stop" against massive government growth and all its economy-killing debt.
Movements like this — and this one incidentally attracted a lot of young women who are often a reliable indicator of a revolution hitting a tipping point — have potential to foretell real change ahead.
Already the Tea Party is proving this, getting representatives elected and re-elected to high office to force the government to cut down. The Chick-fil-A demonstration portends yet another wave. Many of the demonstrators said the Chick-fil-A lines were a foretaste of the Nov. 6 election.
Simply put, politicians need to wake up. It's no longer acceptable to expand grandly and declare civil war on people whose only "crime" is expressing views that are contrary to some politicians.
Worse still, it's despicable for political leaders to threaten to use their political power, entrusted to them by the people themselves, to drive people out of business, to banish them from the public square.
The Internet photos show that everywhere is the public square now. It's time to end the left's culture of political correctness, which can be done only by cutting big government. The message has been sent.

This is a must read article from the New York Review of Books. Maybe someone should forward it to Mayor Bloomberg, himself the head of a large corporation with its accompanying influence.
This almost deserves its own thread but it speaks to the 'certainty' with which Mayor Bloomberg asserts his understanding of the health decisions of millions of people he knows nothing about. Those 'medical experts' he's been listening to apparently don't always know best.
The author: Marcia Angell is a Senior Lecturer in Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and former Editor in Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine. Her latest book is The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It.
(April 2012)
Some choice quotes from this long read:
It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.
No one knows the total amount provided by drug companies to physicians, but I estimate from the annual reports of the top 9 U.S.-based drug companies that it comes to tens of billions of dollars a year in North America alone.By such means, the pharmaceutical industry has gained enormous control over how doctors evaluate and use its own products. Its extensive ties to physicians, particularly senior faculty at prestigious medical schools, affect the results of research, the way medicine is practiced, and even the definition of what constitutes a disease.
Now I realize that a drug company would likely be in favor of selling formula to mothers instead of encouraging breast feeding in this case, but the overall point is that political leaders cannot trust even top university medical researchers to produce objective studies in the current climate of corporate influence on medicine.
When the former head of the New England Journal of Medicine tells you to trust your gut over the latest fashionable study, it makes you wonder how politicians can legislate choices away from patients with any kind of conscience.

Industry Sues Over Sugary-Drinks Crackdown
The American Beverage Association and others sued the city FridayFriday, Oct 12, 2012 | Updated 4:53 PM EDT
Soft-drink makers, restaurateurs and other businesses are suing to block the city's move to end the sale of super-sized, sugary drinks in many eateries.
The American Beverage Association and others sued the city Friday. City officials had no immediate response.
The city Board of Health approved the unprecedented regulation last month. It would stop restaurants, cafeterias and concession stands from selling soda and other high-calorie drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces.
The rule is set to take effect in March.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg calls it a reasonable, promising way to curb obesity.
The lawsuit says the unelected health board shouldn't be telling people how much soda to drink. The suit also says the rule "burdens consumers and unfairly harms small businesses."

Good for the American Beverage Association, thats a lawsuit I can support. In the end though its the taxpayers and consumers who will be footing the bill for this nanny state attitude that exists in the big apple.

Host Pat Sajak took the opportunity to poke a little fun at America’s leading paternalist, Michael Bloomberg.
