View Full Version : Democratic senators offer gun control amendment for cybersecurity bill
The amendment was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.). S.A. 2575 would make it illegal to transfer or possess large capacity feeding devices such as gun magazines, belts, feed stripes and drums of more than 10 rounds of ammunition with the exception of .22 caliber rim fire ammunition.
The amendment is identical to a separate bill sponsored by Lautenberg. Feinstein

I am not a fan. I believe a well-armed populace serves as a great counter-balance against a government, should that government choose to move down the path of tyranny.
Tucking a gun control amendment into a cybersecurity bill - business as usual in DC.
Scroll down to S.A. 2575 (bottom right page 2 S5402 - S5403) to read actual text at link below:

IMO, the list of co-sponsors should reacquaint themselves with the following statements - there are many others.
"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
- Thomas Jefferson
"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
- Thomas Jefferson
Is there really such a thing as a "high-capacity magazine" or is that just an arbitrary term?
I would consider it arbitrary i.e. a personal choice.
IIRC, the phrase "high capacity magazine" is a media type creation - a shortened version of the actual language under the statute.
If memory serves, "large capacity ammunition feeding device" was the phrase actually used under the now expired legislation - creating the old federal assault weapons ban.
The federal limit for "large capacity ammunition feeding device" was previously set at >10 rounds. A seemingly arbitrary number. Perhaps others with more intimate knowledge of the law can shed light on the selection of the magic number 10.
The price for existing (grandfathered) magazines exceeding 10 rounds went through the roof under the old law. So, they could be acquired, albeit for more money.
Well, the lunacy of the left will once again stimulate certain market segments..."large capacity ammunition feeding devices," ammo and firearm sales will soon go through the roof - as if they had not been experiencing record numbers already.
After this they will move on to bigger and better things, like regulating grains in a round. Frogs comming to the boil.
I remember when the Colt AR-15 came with a standard 5-round magazine; same size as a 20-round magazine but only held 5 rounds.

As soon as I heard about the Colorado massacure I knew the Dems would try something like this and those two psyco bitches would be behind it. They ran out of mileage on the Gabrielle Giffords shooting. The well of despotism must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of their martyrs.
From the mouth Bill Kristol:
People have a right to handguns and hunting rifles … I don’t think they have a right to semiautomatic, quasi–machine guns that can shoot hundred of bullets at a time. And I actually think the Democrats are being foolish as they are being cowardly. I think there is more support for some moderate forms of gun control.

Every bill had some bull shit added to it. Both parties do this crap. Nothing new. Politics push-pull going on.
Just liked the UN arms treaty (gun control).. Yes a world gun control.

Bill is right, he does not think...such dramatics.
Let me offer some math and an explanation that even SF guys can understand...
All modern firearms available for public purchase hold one round in the chamber...
...if you have a magazine that is capable of carrying two or three times as much ammunition in the 'clip' as the gun can actually shoot at any given time, then you are in possesion of a high capacity magazine
...and for what its worth, if this is even an issue to you, then you are probably the type of extremist that uses armor piercing cop killer bullets and body armor when you go duck hunting with your semi-automatic assault rifle.
Any questions?

Any questions?I haven't yet taken up duck hunting; is there hope?
After Scalias comments on Fox News yesterday this topic has merged with the UN Treaty topic:

Hey, I never wear body armor when I use armor piercing cop killer bullets to go duck hunting with my semi-automatic assault rifle.
But I do bring a grenade, in case the fishing's good.
G = Goal, L = Libs, C = Conservatives, S = Subject (Gun Control)
The Goal for libs is a total ban. The Goal for Conservatives is not a total ban.
