SF Considers Strict Outdoor Smoking Ban – Except For Medical Pot

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/07/19/sf-considers-banning-smoking-at-outdoor-events-except-for-medical-pot/

Here and there over the years on this board when discussing smoking I had said there would come a time where I could be out eating somewhere with no smoking signs but somebody would be able to light up a joint next to me.

It has now come to pass. The libs worry about second hand smoke - just not pot.

"SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Smoking anything other than medically-prescribed marijuana at San Francisco street fairs, festivals and other outdoor events held on city property would be banned under new legislation before the Board of Supervisors....................

“It’s widely known that secondhand smoke is responsible for as many as 73,000 deaths among non-smokers each year in the United States, and there is no safe level of exposure,” he said......................"

QP Pete - What factors led to that logical leap? It doesn't make sense to me that anti-smoking legislation would not apply to smoking (marijuana).

Not to answer for Pete but...

maybe primary authors of the bill where "high" or maybe they (rightly or wrongly) believe in and respect the "medical" aspect of "medical marijuana" - thus carving out the exemption.

But, it is San Fran...so who knows...logic and San Fran pols and bureaucrats have yet to meet.

ETA hope thus helps.

Wrong! Oh, the irony:

http://oehha.ca.gov/Prop65/docs_state/mjcrnr061909.html

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) of the California Environmental Protection Agency is adding marijuana smoke to the Proposition 65 list1, effective June 19, 2009.

Marijuana smoke was considered by the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) of the OEHHA Science Advisory Board2 at a public meeting held on May 29, 2009. The CIC determined that marijuana smoke was clearly shown, through scientifically valid testing according to generally accepted principles, to cause cancer.

Like tobacco, if first-hand smoke is harmful I think it would be safe to say that second-hand marijuana smoke can be harmful as well.

Everytime I see SF, I, too, think Special Forces. Maybe we should refer to that city by the bay as San Fran... or Frisco. I hear they don't like either name there, which is a very good reason to do it! :D
