Needles Found In Sandwiches On 4 Delta Flights
AP, 17 jUL 2012

Delta Air Lines Inc. and the FBI are trying to figure out how needles got into turkey sandwiches served aboard four flights from Amsterdam. One passenger was injured.

The airline said that what appear to be sewing needles were found in five sandwiches on Sunday. One passenger on a flight to Minneapolis was injured, but the passenger declined to get medical attention, according to Delta spokeswoman Kristin Baur. The other needles were on two flights to Atlanta and one to Seattle.

The FBI's Atlanta office has opened a criminal investigation into the matter, the agency said in a written statement. An FBI spokesman in Atlanta did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

Baur said flight attendants stopped serving the sandwiches as soon as the needle was discovered. Messages went out to other flights en route from Amsterdam, where the sandwiches had been prepared by a catering company. Another sandwich served on the Minneapolis-bound flight also had a needle, Baur said.

After the needles were found, passengers got pizza instead.

Baur said security for its meal production has been increased and it is using more prepackaged food while the investigation continues.

Interesting note- One of the passengers was an unaccompanied 12 year old who did not want to give up the needle because he wanted to keep it for evidence in his lawsuit. The passengers on a different flight that had needles in their sandwiches are the 12 year old's parents.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Would start with the catering company, check the cooks. Always check the cooks.:o

That being said...that folks would eat pizza after that...well, there must be a village somewhere missing their population of idiots.

What strange times...

Airline pizza. Can you imagine?

It would be the only thing worse than buffet pizza, in my mind.

You know, its funny, as a kid when I flew and you had your choice of chicken or beef, it was high style, and exciting. But after that, can honestly say that I have not consumed any food on an any airplane...just yuk, IMHO.

Just yesterday, was flying SW airlines....and all they serve are pretzels and nuts...but I would not ever put those things in my mouth. Does anyone even know how old they are?

Sometimes I fly back to Atlanta for business. I like Hartsfield-Jackson because there is a Popeye's in the Delta Terminal. Before I get on the plane, I order a 3 pice combo. I get redbeans and rice for my side order. I eat the red beans and rice before I get on the plane and save the chicken for the flight...

Ironic indeed...So there I was yesterday getting onto my plane from New Orleans to...,and the row I chose was the last in the back, next to a soldier in camo, who was sitting by the window.

The loudspeaker was blaring instructions for everyone to keep moving to the back b/c the plane was fully sold...so I took the middle seat... (And after thanking the soldier, said I was in the safest seat on the plane.) ;)

Then a larger woman approached and sat down in the asile seat with a take-out box of some kind. She opened it and began to eat. (This was after she sat down, appologizing to me for having what she said was, "a big behind," and clipping my arm with said appendage.)

In any case, I did not know that they allowed food to be brought onto planes...but after hearing about this Delta story...hey, if you are that hungry, go for it!:p

TSA's Investigators will be busy on this one.I can see press release accompanying the final report.

"After a thorough investigation that took hundreds of man hours and costs millions of dollars, the TSA's investigative team concluded that the needles were, indeed, needles."
