From your link...........

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/v/va-test-permit.htm

"The Truth:
This one is fiction. A spokesperson at the Veterans Hospital told TruthorFiction.com that all patients are protected by doctor/patient confidentiality and any information taken by the Veterans Administration (VA) is never shared with any outside agencies. The only exemption to the case would be if a hospital were asked to assist in a criminal investigation.

The three questions about feeling stressed, threatened and desiring to harm others are to test for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which some of our men and women in the armed services have suffered as a result of combat. This test is administered to many patients who served in the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq. "

I do not trust Snopes as they have been caught pushing the lib agenda one time too many. Thus they are totally discredited when it comes to anything Obama.

I do not know enough about that portion to speak intelligently, however, since anti gun doctors can now ask that question, and they can report your mental condition, then ergo they could get your license yanked. Connect the dots.

As stated, I do not know that much about that screwed up bill, but I do know more than most of the fools that voted for it so they could find out what was in it.

I have learned to quit being optimistic about the underlying reasons for Obama and his minions of crooks actions. I would rather now expect the worse and be pleasantly surprised than expect "candy land" and find a "desert of deceit".

So do you think, doctors should remain silent about the fact that they have a patient with mental problems who is licensed to carry a gun, or a patient who is legally blind that is licensed to drive a motor vehicle, or a patient who has dementia and is licensed to drive?

I've had annual physicals for the last ten years, biannual dental visits for the past ten years, and annual cardiac stress tests/procedures for the past five years - this topic has not come up. But then I'm clearly munted.

Strawman argument (again). How do you tell a subjective argument? The use of the word "should". WTF does "mental problems" even mean? And there is a big difference from someone who suffers from PTSD (last time I checked, they could own guns) owning a firearm and a blind person driving a car. Get a grip.

Crap, standard liberal argument. Think worse case and use it for all!

Apples and Oranges!! There is a reporting procedure for the medical community to report mental problems without asking about guns. Same with blind. You don't need to ask "do you have a gun in your home" to all as this bill indicates. This goes along wiht the anti-gun policy of asking if neighbors have guns and then not allowing your kids to play iwth those kids. What crap!

Your asking that question just shows your leanings very well. Your approval of blanket questioning on guns have me wondering.

Can you give some examples?

This has been discussed here before.

The discussion may not be dispositive but should provide additional fodder for various opinions.

MOO, If you don't see bias in most everything on the Internet - you're not looking hard enough.

Trust but verify.

It may be a recent posting on the forum cited in the OP, but that chain email story relating "here's what I found at the doc's office" has been around for quite awhile.

Even if asked as part of an overall MH assessment, where the totality of circumstances dictates, VA or medical providers can't release that info unless the person has been adjudicated incompetent or a threat to themselves or others.

Our local gendarmes are still using clear VHF and I hear many times a dispatcher request a local squad or deputy do a welfare check at the behest of the VA, on behalf of someone who's expressed concern to someone at the VA. I have never heard the info proferred that "VA advises subject is believed to have weapons in the house" or not.

(People isolate sometimes & have other problems. The other side of the coin, knowing many of the vets in town, quite often said vet is simply chilling out trying to get some quiet time away from the busy body who called the VA in the first place...)

[Firearms ownership bunny trail] I still get a kick out of Fred Thompson addressing the NRA "Bishop's Council" the last time he was a candidate. You know, where all the candidates come out & say the right things about growing up with .22's, or yeah, they pheasant hunt every year with Dick Cheney...

Fred was short & sweet: "I own alot of guns. I'm not going to tell you what kind, how many, or where they are. It's frankly nobody's business."
Next question. :D
