How completely and totally fucked up.
We should thank our lucky stars that the morons (civilians) calling the shots in todays conflicts were not in charge during WWII. No one would have the guts to approve the fire bombings or God forbid using the bomb not once but twice. It just keeps getting worse and the danger that our troops are exposed to just keeps multiplying. What has happened to us?

Let's give credit where credit is due, this is the Army's decision. They own it.
So this man get's 4 seconds or so to make a decision under duress while REMF's get the rest of eternity to armchair quarterback this thing? Reminds me of an experience my WLC instructor told us about Ramadi in '05 I think? E-5 in charge of ECP operations has a car speeding toward the gate. He utilizes all necessary measures of EOF. Car still won't stop, gives order to his men to open up after trying to reach higher on the radio to no avail. He went through I think he said over a year of investigations, hearings etc. before he was exonerated. Maybe that bumper sticker about "If you won't stand behind our troops please feel free to stand in front of them" also applies to members within the service itself

It's a war not a police action.
Defending your wounded brothers goes far beyond what non-combatants think, do or say.
We were not there, I'd hold my tounge just for that fact. And I'd hold faith in my brother in arms actions until all the facts are laid on the table.

Sometimes the Army ain't that stupid. Good for all.
When I was a young troop I hated investigations especially when the result was obvious.
As an old troop I learned that calling for an investigation can actually protect the soldier and the Command.
Once it is complete it is done with....as in this case...it cannot be brought up again at a later date (when the facts and personnel are no longer around) or when someone has an axe to grind, or some branch or some politician.
